In short: Marathon in the Rain!! In full: A different race. A mix of estates, parks, shops. Good organisation and plenty of drinks stations. A fair price to enter and a friendly start/finish area. A big thank you to all those that helped with the event it's just a shame about the rain! Still managed a 3hr 36min so still a fair time. Date of review: September 5, 2010
In short: A bit dull and grey - too 'estate-y' for my liking.. In full: Well what can I say, I ran this back in September 2008 and although I can't recall every single little detail about it, I do remember it putting me off Marathons for a good while..
Admittedly, I didn't have much to compare it to, but after running Stratford and Abingdon Marathon and feeling an incredible sense of warmth atmosphere wise, I must say Wolverhampton for me wasn't too inspiring.
Just remember running round a load of housing estates and there not being much else. Lots of long roads that dragged on endlessly and some quite challenging inclines at times..
Organisation was generally alright but the start was a bit staggered due to the other events going on..
Finish line was a bit of a joke really - not very grand or spectacular, but then I suppose it isn't a huge race.
Medal was a bit disappointing too - black and red 'Wolverhampton City Marathon Events' - I'm presuming the same medal was given out to all the cyclists, half Marathoners and Marathoners.. Nothing like some of the lovely gold ones you get at other events..
The Ron Seal of Marathons IMHO - does what it says on the tin. Date of review: October 19, 2009
In short: My first half and I loved it In full: This was my first half marathon, and I really enjoyed it. In fact it made my second "bigger" race a bit of a let down. Bit of a problem at the start with a car trying to push though, and a lack of mile markers wasn't helpful, but the atmosphere was great, and I don't mind narrow streets / paths provided that there aren't too many people on them running in groups, which there weren't. Can't wait for next year! Date of review: October 11, 2009
In short: An enjoyable race, but nothing special In full: I really enjoyed this race. I had read last years reviews and feared the worst and was pleasantly surprised. A little cheeky in some places but well organised and a really friendly atmosphere. I look forward to coming back and having a go at the full marathon. Date of review: October 2, 2009
In short: I loved it, mile marker thing was lame, but I had my Garmin...Got a PB and ran my first sub 2hr half, super speedy first 7 miles then hills! Overall fast and great for a beginner, will deffo do this again next year, oh and great medal and goody bag! Date of review: September 16, 2009
In short: Poor organisation in parts In full: 2 LAPS on second lap whilst doing marathon cars well to close. The road should of been closed, to dangerous in parts. Also suggestion to do like the Reading Half Marathon does and finish inside the football stadium, making for more of an atmosphere at the end and a lot less of a walk after you finish back to where your car is parked. In short: Well organised 'city' event - a family affair In full: Only complaint was the lack of mile markers for the Half, otherwise pleased with the atmosphere, which caters for the supporters as well as the runners, excellent value for money with medal, t-shirt and goody bag, will remain an annual event for me Date of review: September 13, 2009
In short: More improved course In full: With the changes of the new route, I enjoyed the new course and pleased someone finally changed it. And also it has turned it into a fast course. Thanks and il see you in 2010 Date of review: September 12, 2009
