In short: An organisation worthy of big City Half Marathons etc. (Superb). Very well marshalled (some of them were quite hot too!)

In short: Race this one, you won't be disappointed!
In full:
I was hesitant at participating in this race as I hadn't been training/running since August, and my diet was poor.

NEGATIVES: To be honest, there aren't many negatives, hence my intention to run again in 2010. There is a slight bottleneck after approximately 250m and at the footbridge over the railway lines.

POSITIVES: I couldn't see any other ethnic minorities there, but was made to feel very welcome by people who were there. Friendly conversations and good humour between strangers was very refreshing and helped relax me before the race. I had some of the same people come up to me after the race and ask me how I was and how the race went for me. The race is over a good course with some lovely picture-postcard views after a few kilometres and a good mix of road and trail. The overall level of organisation was excellent.

Goody bag & medal: The medal was one of the largest and best medals I have received for any run, really worth the effort! There were bananas being handed out at the end of the race and cereal/granola bars along with a few other little bits and bobs in the goody bag (mostly useful if you live locally).

In short: Had a lovely time. My first cross-country run and pretty hilly, but the weather was perfect, marshalling spotless, and the atmosphere relaxed and fun. Would defintely do it again. My only frustration was that there were a couple of sections...
In full: ...on the course where it was impossible to overtake other runners, which wasted a few precious minutes. Had I known, I would have run faster at the start.

In short: Something a little different
In full: I am always full of admiration for those who manage to organize races in South-East London, as it is difficult to find routes which get out of residential streets and which do not have multiple laps. The Petts Wood 10K manages to achieve both. I am not a fan of residential races, but this race managed to get out into the country for the middle 4 miles, and the supporters used local knowledge to appear several times on the course, which, coupled with having my name on my number, meant that I got more support than I had anticipated.

The course itself was definitely undulating, and some narrow sections made PBs much harder to obtain than on other courses, but this is definitely one to do again - but note that the 750 limit was reached this year, and the course will not easily cope with more, so enter early for 2010!
