In short: The best half marathon. My third year on the run and I'm already looking forward to next year. In full: Challenging, but very rewarding. Fast today with less wind than last couple of years, but the 3 min wade obviously slows things a bit. I adore this race. My only minor gripe was the chip timing introduced this year - I didn't realise it didn't take into account your start time, so lost 40 secs ambling to the start line. A huge thank you to all involved in the organisation of the race. Thanks for letting me run on the blue bits of the map. Date of review: July 24, 2011

In short: very well organised on challenging terrain . Safety aspects very good In full: wasn't sure which shoes to wear... I wore my old road trainers and of course got blisters with the water and that I was no longer used to them.. Lots of salt water all the way , but ther ridged sand was perhaps best with trail shoes ...? Date of review: July 24, 2011

In short: Fantastic race, beautiful scenery and really well run. In full: This was my first half, and I loved it. Definitely intend to be back. Also really chuffed with the medal. (I am a medal collector not a t-shirt collector!)
I was close to not been allowed to finish, and do think mentioning on the website an idea of the time you've got to get it done would be useful for future years. This however was my only, (very minor,) gripe in what was a smoothly run, well organised, exceptionally friendly, generally fantastic, race.
Everyone should have a go at this at some point in their running lives. Date of review: July 24, 2011

In short: Great In full: Great race we were lucky with the weather only headwind was at about 11 1/2 miles, The cource was short but in this sort of race it does not matter!!!I stoped off here on my way to Scotland just to run this and will try to get my running club up next year. If could say one thing about this race it's try it!!! I'm off for a pint now with my new found northern chums. Date of review: July 24, 2011

In short: Marvellously bonkers event! In full: First timer so unaware what it would bring. Clockwork organisation to get you bussed to the start from the finish. Then a mad HM with only about 300m not on sand. Basically you're running on sand, sand and more sand - mostly wet sand with tidal ripples and about an inch of water. Ever so often you have to cross one of the tidal streams. Most of them are really shallow however the biggy is about 120 m wide and gets to about 80cm deep. I wondered why everyone wasn't going in a straight line across it, then you get in and there's a cheeky current. At about 8-10 miles it turned into slightly drier sand and the head wind kicked in. Then it snakes towards the finish on wetter sand with tidal channels again. Marvellous and friendly organisation by CancerCare. It's the first run where I've been able to see the lead runner for ages. After 4 miles he'd probably done six however could still see him as it was flat as a pancake. It was a bit weird as you looked right you couldn't see the sea, just sand, then if you looked left you could just see sand for more than a mile back to the shore.
Already signed up for next year.

In short: unique race that is very memorable and for a good cause In full: having run this the first two years, and then taken a break, I was very pleased to see the organisation had been greatly improved, with great marshalling and a superb reception from the crowd at the finish, which mad up for the quiet on the sands, bar the marshalls who all cheered me along quite nicely. Although dearer than most races, i totally appreciate the costs that must go into organising the event, and found the t-shirt a lot funkier than most (although i would take a medal any day of teh week). A great run overall. Date of review: June 9, 2010
