In short: Stunning scenery, very hilly, fell over but still loved it In full: Berlin 3.54. Greensand 5.08, although some training might have helped! It's the best trail running you'll find in the South East. Don't underestimate it, but if this is too easy, try the Picnic.... Date of review: October 24, 2011

In short: A great challenge, but with lots of fun and plenty of scenery too. In full: A fantastic race with plenty of challenges in the shape of hills, roots, rocks and did I mention hills? Marshals were excellent, they were to be found whooping in even the darkest areas of the woods. A full English breakfast at the finish followed by a soak in the pool was the best! Above all, it was just good fun. Date of review: October 24, 2011

In short: Gutted about the cut off at 6 & a half miles. In full: Just trying to find the race venue was a marathon, almost turned around. No signs out to indicate where the school was, then when we arrived there was nothing to indicate where the HQ was to pick up our race number, everyone was wondering around like sheep, not the sort of stress you need before a Marathon. This would have been my 11th Full Marathon, of which many have been tough trail and all have been finished in good time, but this cut off at 6 & a half is a joke, when I was only 2mins off it and I knew I would have come in well under 6 hours. I dont understand why there is a cut off my partner managed to make it all the way, and almost killed herself doing the 1st 6 & a half miles, I think it is worse that you have this added pressure then if there was a Marathon cut off time limit! In short: Anyone who pretends this is easy is full of BS, but its well worth doing! In full: This race is a bit different! The cut off makes a conservative start difficult, though most peole will make Leith Hill with a few minutes in the tank - it's just hard to convince yourself of that at the time!
The course is winding and within the constraints of size of the volunteer marshal team well marked and the support on the course superb.
I'm not sure what anyone can do about the stupidity of locals who not only remove, but actually move course markers - I'd despair of the UK, but apparently it happens in the US on the Classic 100 milers, which must bring a fair bit of cash in to the local economy.
Thank you Doctor Rob; I'll be back!

In short: it out did the reviews I read both in excellence of events and toughness of the run In full: This really was jolly good fun, great atmosphere, very friendly all round, great organisation. I had a rubbish run due to poor training and an injury but will be back next year to try and do the course justice. Excellent medal, tee-shirt and cap at the end much better than most and all worth keeping. Thank you very much. Date of review: October 24, 2011

In short: Who wants to run a flat marathon anyway? In full: The Greensands Marathon is a great race. True its tough but its all do-able and who wants to run a flat marathon anyway? The views from the Greensand Ridge are immense, the conditions underfoot are certainly enough to keep you occupied (or fall over if not) and the overall atmosphere of the race is fantastic Full race report at http://breadsweatandbeers.blogspot.com/2011/10/greensands-marathon.html Date of review: October 24, 2011

In short: No flat bits! In full: 26.2 miles of either up or down - a verticle mile of ascent. Beautiful Surrey Hills scenery, wonderful enthusiastic marshalling, lots of nice organisational touches (including a full english breafast at the end - which I have to admit my stomach wasn't in a fit state for) and the usual Trionium madness (singing "Jerusalem" at the start).
Mainly on forested tracks, often narrow, with a lot of tree roots and lose stones, so keeping an eye out on the path is a must. Third quarter particularly painful - the downhill from Leith Hill is very welcome afterwards, although not so the sharp climb onto the Nower less than a mile from the finish! In short: Challenging event with a great atmosphere. In full: A great event, I found it pretty tough going (and even tougher coming back!) Great scenery, good marshalling but the thing that really stood out was the camaraderie between the runners. Date of review: October 24, 2011

In short: This race started as soon as I left home. There's a reason why 90+ runners did not attend - they couldn't find the place. No directional arrows anywhere in the vicinity!!! I've ran around 30 Marathons but was treated like a beginner when I In full: didn't reach the turn around until around 2hours. The views were pleasant though!!! Date of review: October 24, 2011
