In short: Like running round the school field In full: 4 laps of a school playing field and a little bit of park. Route unclear before we started, hats off to the marshals for standing in the cold and pointing us in the right direction though. Distance was only 9.6k (on the garmin) - muddy in places and a kissing gate half way through each lap. Only one toilet Date of review: January 12, 2009

In short: not one of the best! In full: very little info from the organiser pre race and on the day, inadequate toilets, the two way swing gate was a nightmare, half of the course was round a sports field and 4 laps of this was dull, no goody bag or t shirt as advertised, got a medal and dodgy cap. Would not do again Date of review: January 11, 2009

In short: Conditions didn't help the organisers, but despite this a number of things could definitely be improved upon. Date of review: January 11, 2009

In short: poor organisation and not flat In full: no idea what the course was at the start. not convinced it was 10k but no distance markers so who knows. one loo not enough. ridiculous kissing gate to run through both ways. definitely wasn't flat! no tshirt or goody bag as advertised. found ground quite difficult to run on - icy in places and then slippy where it had melted. one positive - the race organiser answered my text before the race to confirm it was still on (probably a bad decision!) In short: Disappointing course, gate and mud were very frustrating. In full: My Garmin had it as 9.63k so my sub 55 minute time should not really count as my second fastest time for this distance. I was looking forward to this race as it was the first of the year and had high hopes but the lack of organisation before race day should have given me a warning. Confusion at the gate on each lap was annoying and the final insult came when the medals and cheap hats (even my 10 year old daughter looked disgusted at the hat so never to be worn again) were dished out by someone, I am guessing the organiser, who showed absolutley no appreciation for what the runners had achieved. Did not realise that there should have been a T Shirt as well. It is a shame because as this is a early race in the year it would be good to do this again or maybe train a bit harder for the Dartford 10 mile next year. Date of review: January 11, 2009

In short: disappointed in organisation In full: very disappointed that change of date clashed with x-country league race so I could not compete and no response when I asked organiser about refund of entry fee. A sorry would have been nice even if a refund was impossible Date of review: January 11, 2009

In short: Ice under foot did not make for a personal best!! In full: Really hard race, mainly due to the icy conditions and freezing cold weather which then suddenly turned hot so I was rather caught out in 3 layers, woolly hat and legwarmers!! It was advertised as flat but was definitely hilly and some of it I felt very unsteady on my feet as there was so much mud and ice. DId anyone else find it really challenging or was it just me?! In short: Big freeze didn't help this one In full: I wouldn't argue with some of the earlier feedback but there were some positives to take from this race (honestly!). The results were posted on www.southlondonfives.co.uk within 3 hours of the finish. I made the distance 10k spot on. I spoke to the organiser and he said there was no option but to change the course at the last minute due to hazardous conditions at the far side of the railway track near the car park. I double-checked before going home and it was dangerous to walk on, let alone run. Finally, the race could and perhaps should have been cancelled but the organiser had alreading postponed once because of a mix-up at the council (and they still wouldn't open the gate for us!) and didn't want to let people down for a second time. Perhaps this was the wrong decision in hindsight? Date of review: January 11, 2009
