In short: Great distance race but scenery a bit dull In full: I thought the race was ideal for marathon training. I would like to run more Kilmathons in more scenic places as 16 miles is a great distance and the KM signage is good practice for marathon pacing.
On the down side this was not the most scenic of runs. It was well marshalled and organised from a runners point of view. From a traffic and road point of view I would have been well hacked off if I lived in Alveston as the roads appeared to be completely gridlocked as I ran the last couple of miles and there was probably at least 50 minutes worth of runners still to come past.
Toilets at the start a bit of a joke with the organisers trying to persuade those still in the queue that getting into pens was more important than going to the loo. It made them look a bit amateurish to be suggesting this and then there were runners using the sides of houses/gardens instead but at least it left the portaloo queues free for the girls. Room for improvement but overall a good race. Date of review: March 27, 2010

In short: transport was chaos and exspensive but a good race In full: THIS RACE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME A MASSIVE EVENT .THE ORGANISERS CLEARLY HAVE SOME FINE TUNING TO DO .THE TOILETS WERE CHAOS ,JUST NOT ENOUGH AND THEY WERE LEFT UNCHECKED SO NO LOO PAPER IN SOME!THE TRANSPORT WAS CHAOS ,AND A 20 MINUTE WALK TO THE BUS AT THE FINISH WAS NOT REALLY WELCOME.SOME CATERING AT THE START WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE.IN COMPARISON THE CATERING AND BEER TENT AND ENTERTAINMENT AT THE FINISH WAS EXCELLENT.THE STARTING PENS DID NOT WORK AT ALL.THE RACE ITSELF WAS WELL MARSHALLED AND THE SUPPORT FROM THE PUBLIC WAS FANTASTIC,AS LONG AS THEY CAN SORT THE TRANSPORT AND KEEP THE COST DOWN I WOULD ENTER AGAIN Date of review: March 22, 2010

In short: Route excellent, all but flat In full: Appallingly bad transport arrangements came close to spoiling my day. The route was well chosen, if a little dull (apart from the parkland) but to change the carparking at the start, a week before the race, and charge extra for it, and the distinct lack of signage for the baggage drop, start and the shuttle buses at the finish really let the organisation down. Plenty of water stations though, and a superb chunky medal. Try again next year, chaps! Date of review: March 21, 2010

In short: A good idea for an inbetweeny distance In full: Would have been a nice touch to hold it on St Georges day to highlight England, St Andrews day for Scotland and so on. Thought the support around the course from locals and volunteers was amazing! Good run good organisation just feel the the cost of shuttles and buses in and carparking made you feel like 'What ive got to pay for that as well' at times felt like one thing after another. Loos as well always a concern and the harassment to finish and be in the pens was a bit much Date of review: March 21, 2010

In short: Good for a first race - good support on route In full: Good - nice distance, route ok, support good, general organisation, t-shirt and medal at end, local support Average - scenery Bad - parking (distance from venue and paying for it - felt ripped off), toilets -come on organisers when will this be right, not rocket science. Lots of people hydrating needs lots of toilets. Urinating against housing simply not on. Waiting around at the start was a bit of a bind and cold. Not sure the right pens started at the right time as there appeared to be lots of faster runners behind me...
All in all, a fair attempt at the first organising of such a race. Date of review: March 20, 2010

In short: Okay but a wee problem needs sorting for next year! In full: I am a bit cynical (or maybe just sad) about private enterprise usurping the traditional fund-raising opprtunity for running clubs in organizing local races, but since the race was starting just 50 yards from my house, I entered and found the run to be efficiently run. As a local I agree with the comment below about urinating against the blocks of low-rise flats near the start. iT JUST AIN'T ON - but the organizers need to learn from it and provide some of the portable urinals along that stretch of road if the race is to be run again next year. In short: Nice to be part of a first - First Kilomathon. Good distance to move on from the half marathon with a view to go on to greater distances. Only problem was the queues for the loos. I lost so much time on the day waiting..... still got a PB though. Date of review: March 17, 2010
