In full: An excellent start.

Being a London Marathon reject for the past 2 years I found out about and entered this event by chance. This was my first ever marathon too but not my last I am pleased to say.

The town turned out in force, the weather was stunning and the course was flat(ish), the goody bag and medal top drawer.

A couple of points need addressing and then it will be perfect. Can we have an energy drink station at 5/6 miles? I think this is when you should be topping your energy levels? And more toilets at the start please. The trees were getting well watered by 9, ok for us 'gents' but not for everyone! Oh and can we move the power station, didn't like that bit, 20 miles and no support!? Don't mind the double backs though, they gave the spetators twice the chance to see their friends.

All in all an excellent race, event, weekend.
I will definately be back next year as I'm sure I will get rejected from the VLM again!

In short: It's not London but it's a fair second best!
In full: There were a few niggles that I guess are inevitable with the first running of an event of this size but, on the whole, it was a great day out! The tough (and slighty contrived) course was complemented by the obvious commitment of the town, it's great support and an ice cream and paddle at the end of the day!

In short: A shame about Shoreham and the out-and-back around a cone, and please give me one chip/personal time!
In full: A lovely day, and potentially a lovely race with great support - although not where we needed it most! When we started hitting walls we had a crane and speed humps in Shoreham docks to look at. My only other gripe is the "personal" time that was texted to me, and the chip time that appeared on the official results being different by 2 minutes. If anyone could explain this, I'd be most grateful, as I'm raising money through a sweepstake! Highlights included the crowd (fantastic!), medal, and goody bag.

In short: A fantastic run and a definite rival for London in terms of atmosphere and crowd support!!
In full: This was a triumph for the city of Brighton and the race organisers who risked a lot in putting on such a big first marathon with no giant sponsor to back them.
The route was kind and well-organised - excellent, incredibly friendly and supportive marshalls. The crowds were excellent and reminded me of my New York - encouraging and positive throughout.
Plenty of water and toilets en-route, fantastic goody-bag full of Body Shop creams and treats - can't wait to do it again.

In short: Well organised, well supported - but dull dull dull course
In full: Too many "out, turn around and back" sections on the course. Running around the Shoreham Power Station site at 20 miles was possibly the lowest point of my running career. London Marathon it ain't.

In short: Too many out-and-back sections making it a hard slog despite FANTASTIC crowds
In full: Overall organisation was ok but literature was very bossy! I stuck to the rule about no headphones and really wish I hadn't as there was very little of the promised entertainment and the route was not distracting enough. There were 4 long stretches of running past faster runners (incredibly depressing) followed by four long sections of running past slower runners (not as satisfying as one might think).
Crowd support was excellent except for a few people who seemed to think I was invisible and ran across the road in front of me (gripe gripe). Offical marathon staff crew were all brilliant too!
Still enjoying the goodies at the end and pleased that I could pick my t-shirt size. Space to engrave the medal is also a nice touch.

This was my third marathon and although I acheived a PB I'm not sure that I would do it again because of the route.

In short: Great run, will defo do it again, no question!
In full: I had a fantastic day and enjoyed this run very much, it was my 3rd marathon (london twice) and I would defo do it again, all 1st time events will have teething problems, so i think most of the gripes of others are a little bit harsh as im sure the organisation of such huge events take a hell of a lot of hard work!
If i dont get in vlm next year i will be back and im sure the minor issues such as the starting funnel and the loo's will be resolved as you live and learn. well done to all involved and thanks for a great day!!
