In short: A fantastic scenic trial run
In full: This was my first trail race and it was fantastic! The weather was perfect for running and the views over Ullswater were spectacular, although you cannot take your eyes from the ground for long. The hills were challenging and my legs ached for a couple of days after but hey - Wilf's piping hot bean stew, cake and unlimited tea was just the thing at the end. I loved this race and will definitely do it again.

In short: Second trail race, as in second part of dirty double - yay :o) - certainly as challenging as day before and I crashed proper hard on a slippery rock early on... but nothing was going to stop me!!!
In full: Mountains, lakes, fabulous people and a buzz that could last for a seriously long time :o)

Never a dull moment on this race, seemed a shame to tear the eyes away from the fabulous scenary but the foot falls needed a bit of care. Did come a serious cropper about 5K in but hopped up and onwards! Bruising still there nearly 2 weeks on... but hey it was soooo worth it when you get to chill the injury by standing in Ullswater at the end lol

Oh and the free bean stew at the finish was the best!

In short: One of my favourites!
In full: Second run of the Dirty Double!

The views on this run are no less than stunning - gorgoeus views over Ullswater :o)

Some tricky bits underfoot, and not the quickest 12k you'll ever run, but well worth the effort!!!

The steamer down the lake to the start at Howtown, while being serenaded, was a great way to start the race.... there was a superb photie included in the price of the race, with Ullswater and the surrounding hills as a backdrop.... and a superbly yummy hot meal afterwards too!

I love this run - brilliant atmosphere, superbly organised and amazing fun :o)

Roll on next year!!! *boing*

In full: I can only endorse everything that has already been written. Great weather and organisation, incredible scenery, friendly fellow competitors of all abilities. Well worth the 300+ mile journey for me. Can't wait for next year.

In short: Still buzzing two days later - what a weekend!!!
In full: This was, quite simply, the best running weekend I have ever had. Two stunning races back-to-back amid arguably the finest scenery that the UK has to offer. After the recent disappointments at Keswick and Coniston, the VO2 Max team were due a little good fortune with the weather and this was delivered in spades - autumn sunshine both days with a hint of snow on the tops. Both races passed off without a hitch that I noticed and the atmosphere among runners, supporters and organisers throughout the entire weekend was exceptional.

The two routes are a challenge - both have short sections that challenge the line between trail running and fell running - but the fact that you can choose your event and take as long as you need means that there is truly something for everyone. More to the point, there is no 'elitism' among the faster finishers - everybody's achievement is celebrated equally and the children get pride of place in the closing 'ceremony' following their races.

Many, many thanks to everybody associated with these events, not just the VO2 Max organising team but to sponsors, supporters and fellow competitors as well. The best line I heard to describe these events (and I wish I could remember who said it so I could credit them properly) was 'It attracts some bloody good runners but some even better people'.

If you have been looking at the event website wondering whether to enter one or more of these events - stop thinking about it and get your credit card out. You will not regret it.

In short: Love it!
In full: This race is as beautiful as it is challenging.
Other competitors were friendly and cheerful, my thighs felt like they were on fire as I struggled up the magnificent hills, but the glorious stew at the end helped round off a wonderful day.
It's Monday evening as I write, my legs still ache but I feel very contented.
See you next year
