In short: great race, but very hot In full: I really enjoyed this one, managed to shave 9 minutes off my time which i'm really pleased about considering it was as hot as it was. Marshalls were very good , and a friendly atmosphere makes it all worth while. Definitely do it again Date of review: June 4, 2007

In short: A reasonably flat 2 lap course along the sea front. Friendly marshalls, drinks stations were good. Disappointing to have the start delayed for the second year running. Date of review: December 29, 2006

In short: Most races have some sort of hic-cup, just do it, you wont be dissapointed. In full: I have raced the half three times and set a new pb every time. Shame about the delay but the organisers can't take into account be for the lorry catching fire. Great medal, good t-shirt and goody bag, and not many halves ar full marathons still give out butties at the end. I love racing here, just a pity about the drunkeds and the 4 hour drive I have to make to get to Blackpool. Date of review: August 12, 2006

In short: Let down by a few things In full: Arriving for the race there was no evidence that anything was happening - no advertising, direction signs etc. For that reason I think the atmosphere was below average. It started 30 minutes late and the chip timing failed to record the time crossing the line. Therefore I am sorry to give a below average organisation rating. A quarter of the distance was run on the concrete sea wall, which is about the hardest running surface possible. I was dissapointed that the commentator ridiculed the fact that some half marathoners took over 4 and a half hours last year. Date of review: July 20, 2006

In short: OK, but poor organisation, late start due to water delayed, why wait until the day of the race for the water to be delivered In full: Poor communication when contacting race office, I know that the organisers were volunteers but there is no need for impolite replies to email queries. The website was very late being updated and race packs late arriving. However it seemed OKish on the day, great medal! Shame that my official time was some 30 seconds longer than my stopwatch, can a watch reaaly loose 30 seconds during 3 1/4 hours. The drinks stations were well organised and good to have proper pouches of sportsdrinks. Not too sure if I would do it again, if it was to be run again. Date of review: July 13, 2006

In short: More toilets needed en route & more advertising may have got more crowds out to support us In full: Shame about the delayed start, but at least there was ample water on the course. Am a bit perplexed about the 'chip' time results - is about 2 mins different from my watch time. Was the gantry at the start actually working this year???? Date of review: June 21, 2006

In short: the annual shambles at Blackpoll In full: Late start again - some people are on tight deadlines to finish and then to use public transport to get home on sunday - as they work on Monday ! Water/fuel - you need to deliver what is promised/advertised ? Pity its the last marathon - you would have thought they might keep it going until they got it right - at least once ! To think this race "killed off" the Potteries by muscling in on the June date !!! Date of review: June 16, 2006

In short: All OK really In full: Would have been nice to have started on time, had mile markers every mile, and a streamed start. Would have been much improved by having the lucozade at every drink station - I missed the one at 6, got some at 11 and died at 16 miles, then hobbled for 3 miles till the station at 19 where I finally managed to refuel. Can't help thinking I'd have been 20 min quicker with some early nutrition, but its really my own fault for relying on it being provided. And thanks to the woman who gave me the jelly baby. In short: Great for PB`s if the wind stays away, very flat course. Well worth the effort on training if its a PB you want. In full: My first time to Blackpool shame its the last marathon as I would certainly do it again, I thought it was well organised and very helpful staff, my only negative is, do the St Johns not realise the need to carry vaseline (for the chaffing of course).I asked at several first aid points only to be given a blank expression.Lets see some hands full of vaseline stuck out in future.
