In short: A really incredible experience that will not be matched by many road races. As someone used to doing City coursess and running in very urban areas it was a really special experience doing the Cross Bay. I waist high water and treacherous winds!

In short: Unique race, great fun, good atmosphere, well organised (one way race requiring coaches to start). Mile markers very approximate and with river crossings sotimes not comparable with other races.

In short: The flattest race I've ever done and one of the hardest and most exhilarating.

In short: IN ARNIE'S WORDS, "I'LL BE BACK!" CRACKING RACE, THE BAY TOOK MY HALF MARATHON VIRGINITY!.
In full: From the off I was directed smoothly to a coach, great journey through scenic Lancashire and the wild southern tip of Cumbria. I'll be back up there shortly to visit a hall and a wildlife park we passed.

The starting line was near a holiday park which had a sign based around a giant Oystercatcher (something I studied at Uni). The race was great from hereon, gently ambling onto lush sands and banking North towards the Kent Channel. 5 miles later and its through the cold but managable channel, knee and waist deep at times before digging in deep and testing your mental strength across a barren but often beautiful and very diverse landscape.

Running over sections of wind-swept dry sand appeared as if flying through streams of clouds.

That finishing line was the most welcoming sight ever. Next year I want to beat my time! Loved it!

In short: Incredibly chuffed to have run this. Can't wait to do it again. Never before experienced such wind assistance nor wind resistance - I suppose they even themselves out.

In short: Absolutely unique run in an amazing wilderness
In full: There's nowhere else in the world where you could find a race like this. Tough this year due to strong winds, but everyone should do this one at least once in their running careers.

In short: Awesome venue, superb organisation, great atmosphere. Can't wait for next year's!!
In full: Impressive stuff from start to finish... very friendly and well organised, the feeling of being out in the middle of the bay is breathtaking. Loved the river crossing - not something you do every day! The bay guides did a cracking job, felt well looked after. Great goody bag at the end, very funky t-shirt, free isotonic drinks and fresh fruit a nice touch. Bring on the next one!!!

In short: Cracking scenery, but perhaps not one for a first-timer??
In full: Having said it's not a first-timers race, that's just what it was for me!! (having only done 2 10K's before!
My training was my usual twice-weekly 4mile (each way)run to work!
Oh, & the 'Trunce' (4-mile) cross-countries at Penistone.

The mixture of surfaces was intriguing; the varieties of sand.
The Kent Channel crossing was incredible - I'm sure I saw fish at one point.

The scenery was wonderful, may be running it to the Cumbrian coast would be more 'uplifting' though? (as much as I like Morecambe - especially the gorgeous Midland Hotel)

As for that headwind after the turnaround?, blimey!?!?

Prior to the event, I'd stated to family & friends that my 'guestimated' time was 1.45:00, or under.
I was dead-chuffed to see that I'd recorded 1.42:52!!!, & '51st/237' (according to 'ukresults.net' the same night)

Not a bad time for a cyclist, I thought!!

In short: Flat there ,flat back, flat sands, flat out
In full: Loved this, absolutely loved it.It's more of a run than a race, though that's not to say it doesn't hurt.To call it unique doesn't do it justice and the fellow runners were really friendly loads of banter both before during and after the race. You'd be mad not to do this at least once, life affirming fun!
Wading through rivers running on ground you can feel move beneath your feet and mad wind that helps and hinders(encouraging people to run in packs and chat as they do)so brilliant stuff!
Not a chance I'll miss this one next year
