In short: One year I will finish!
In full: This is my local race - it's starts less than a mile from my home! This is my third year of trying and the third time baled out somewhere on the course!

I run large chunks of the course fairly regularly and whilst the hill up through the park between 7 and 8 miles isn't really that tough, on a hot day it can catch out the unprepared.

For me I stopped at the 4 mile mark - I've run myself into heat exhaustion twice and the results aren't much fun.

I will be back next year, hoping that for one year the harlow 10 weekend will be cooler, much like it was in the run up to the race.

I feel better that I ran the course yesterday on my own in 1:17, which is a 10 mile PB for me.

In short: Great race, well organised, wot hills?
In full: The marshals were most encouraging, as usual; the organisation was excellent and the course was only mildly challenging. The "hill" appraoching mile 8 was only an undulation, the complainers have clearly never run truly hilly courses. Mid-August what do you expect but heat, don't complain. Greta design on the T-shirt too.

In short: Should have brought the speedos, a towel and some factor 20.
In full: Costa del Harlow. Wow. Was aiming for something nice around the 72 minute mark but realised somewhere around the 25 yard mark that that was not going to happen. I was wondering for a good half a mile where the 1 mile marker was so knew I was in trouble. Left my mountaineering gear at home so had some trouble getting up mouth Harlow on 8 miles. Struggled over the finish line on 78 minutes

On a serious note I thought the marshals were fantastic, some of the best I've seen and plenty of the as well. The water stations were perfectly spaced and the route was very nice indeed. A great race apart from the heat. I would love to give this a good shot in cooler conditions.

In short: Good race, very hot!
In full: A good race, got a PB despite the heat.
Loads of marshals on the course but the car parking could have been better organised with marshals at the entry points telling you that they are full rather than waiting for you to drive in!
Other than that struggling to find any major faults, some orange squash would have been nice at the finish! Liked the t-shirt but a more permanent momento would have gone down well even if its just a keyring or something!
Will prob do again.
Thanks to the marshals, you were great around the course and really friendly.

In short: Give me 30 minutes with the nice person who thought up the hill at mile 8!
In full: OK, an opinion from a novice's perspective for what it's worth. This was only my second organised race following my 56 mins at the Lea Valley 10K a few weeks earlier. It's safe to say that I was a bit wary of doing a 10-miler, as I thought it might have been a step up too soon...and looking at the other comments on here from previous years didn't do much to boost my confidence either! Anyway, I did the distance on a treadmill beforehand and decided "what the hell" do it and just aim to get round without stopping. The outshot? In the end I found it bl**dy hard-going but I must admit, very rewarding at the end. The heat was terrible (29 degrees) but I just went at my own pace and actually enjoyed the first 5 miles. Miles 6 and 7 got a bit tough as it got hotter and hotter and the old legs slowed down, but then came Mile 8...and that hill! God that killed me! To my dismay I had to power-walk the last 2 thirds of the hill, but at least the sight of many others doing the same (including plenty of club runners) gave me some pride back. It did take it out me though, and I was pretty much shot for the last 2 miles, although I did run it...slowly. But I made it to the track, managed a sprint down the home straight, and finished on 1:35:00....faster than when I did the distance on the treadmill (in an air-conditioned gym on a zero gradiant)!!! I will admit, there were times whereI was loathing it, my legs hurt like hell the day after, but I left with a huge grin on my face :¬D. By the way, the marshals were billiant! Great encouragement all round. Will probably do it again now that I know what to expect. I just hope it's cooler next year!
