In short: Well organised, personal best potential, and friendly atmosphere. In full: A really good race, with the scenery of the east coast of Scotland but also the wind! I will always run this marathon year after year. Date of review: May 26, 2008
In short: The best way to see Edinburgh's sights. In full: Given that it's in Edinburgh there are always going to be hills but I found them a great challenge rather than a horrible struggle. Running through some of the best sights the city has to offer is magnificent (especially the views from the top of the Mound). The Craggs section is energy supping but if you have the time to take in your surroundings it's beautiful. The weather was great and with a bit more suport on the streets this could grow to be a very, very special run. My only gripe is there were runners from slower waves starting in my group which held me back a little at the start but I suppose that's down to runner honesty rather than organisation.
In short: Will avoid in future In full: Nothing really against this - I live in Edinburgh so as the comments say below I thought I'd give a shot once as prep for the Dunfermline 1/2. First time I've ever done one of these big "set piece" races with "whacky" participants and I found the whole thing pretty boring. Makes me appreciate the East Neuk 10k and other club races though! In short: Great atmosphere - killer hill half way round but good race if you like a challenge! In full: This race is certainly not for the faint hearted. The weather in Edinburgh was unseasonably warm and humid which made conditions for running even more challenging than usual. As usual the queues for the loos were just overwhelming even though there were urinals for the men! Lots of starting waves which meant the start was less congested which was good. Piper at each kilometre marker was nice touch. Disappointing lack of spectators. Killer hill between 5 & 6k going round Arthurs Seat and another grinding hill between 8 & 9k meant a lot of people were walking at this point. Finish was well populated with spectators which was great and Elvis was a nice touch! Goody bag reasonable, medal great and t shirt was also good. Very enjoyable if quite tough race. Will almost certainly be there next year. Date of review: May 6, 2008
