In short: Not exciting scenery but enough going on to take your mind off the race. A great race to get a PB, well organised and great atmosphere.I'll definately be back next year!

In short: Really enjoyed this....
In full: I didn't do the GYR last year but decided to do this year's on a whim. Really enjoyed it, although I agree that the scenery wasn't exactly stunning! It was quite nice to run along Penistone Road and see people on the other side, and where there was support it was enthusiastic. Will definitely be back next year.

In short: A good race well organised and good atmosphere. Recommended.
In full: This was my first organised run - and I loved it. The route was good and I got a 10k PB (well, I would as it was my first!!). Though the organisation and atmosphere was good, with good support throuighout the run (both organised and local), though the last 600m uphill to the finish line were a complete killer. Still am looking to enter more 10k's now and would recommend this.

In short: City-centre Road Race- Bored of these now
In full: Great organisation, people pretty friendly, but race very pricey. Scenery was boring, and did not enjoy running through an underground car park! Road surface on dual carriageway was actually really rough and therefore not even enjoyable in a road-race way. Maybe it's because i've been getting into trail running recently but this race was just pretty boring! Sorry Sheffield! Running to point and back is also quite dull but i am led to believe this is order to make run flatter (?).Really wish i hadn't entered this before they put Leeds Half back on! I did the like the water-mist tunnel though! i would say this is a good race, as are any urban 10Ks, for real beginners, as it's good experience and introduction to roadracing. More interesting route please!

In short: Another Excellent Great Yorkshire Run!
In full: I did this race last year and was disappointed by the course. This year was much better - about as flat as you can get in Sheffield!

I started in the orange wave and had no issues with congestion in the first kilometre and the choice of Penistone Road was excellent as it was very wide.

I agree that the main part of the route was not the most scenic (city centre runs very rarely are) and there were fewer spectators than last year but I think that could be down to less publicity by the council this year.

I think that this is a really excellent event and hope it gets bigger every year - I'll certainly be back!

In short: Well organised city centre race!
In full: Having read some of the comments can I say people be realistic! I travelled from Norwich to take part in this and I also did the Sheffield Half and I found both excellent. The pre race organisation was excellent. I got my pack in good time. My partner, who lives in a large apartment block didnt so he simply phoned them up and without any fuss they sorted it all out. For people who say it lacked atmosphere well it wasnt quite the same as running up Ecclesall road in the half but fellow runners were on good form and we all got to see the elite runners. Frankly what atmosphere is there actually on the course at a local club run?!!
As far as the cost is concerned running an event like this is not cheap in a lot of half marathons now you have to pay for a t-shirt! I know its a private company that runs this and yes they obviously do it for a profit but who cares?! Most cities do not even have one running event let alone two, as a non Yorkshireman I say well done Sheffield!!

In short: Well organised, but hated the now infamous "killer hill" at the end
In full: My first visit to sheffield and enjoyed the day. I didnt enter the race for the scenery, so that was not a problem. Enjoyed the course apart from the end. Overall, thought it was pricey even more so when i saw the medal(seen better in cereal boxes)

In short: Great well-organised run, PB potential, fantastic for the city
In full: Further to earlier comments, who cares about spectators - surely it's the thrill of the race and the other competitors that make it - plenty of other runners to watch both behind and in front. The course was much better than last year - greater PB potential. Pleeease don't change it - I want to see if I can get better over the same course, not attempt a different one again for the first time. Also, further to earlier comments, it would be ridiculous to attempt a run of this size without waves - personally I think they worked fine. A family member ran for the first time in the later green wave and achieved a time of 52m -he was thrilled and will definitely be back. We started in the early orange wave after running 51m in our first 10k here last year. The price is OK but a heavier medal would be nice. I would hate to see this race moved to another city - it is a highlight of my calendar so more support for this race please from the runners of Sheffield and the wider area, both on this site and in attendance?

In short: Fast, Dull with Killer last 400m
In full: Well organised but why such large gaps between starting waves? Tight turns at start were frustrating. Penistone road was boring and lacked support, but was fast. Uphill finish was murder.
