In short: Very enjoyeble In full: Returning to the town I grew up in for my first Half Marathon, this event didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed the race, despite starting too quickly and suffering later.
Will definitely be back again each year to measure my improvement!
Only negative, I thought the final water station was too close to the finish (11 mile marker). The first was at 5 miles and could the second could have done with being at 9 or 10 miles. Date of review: December 5, 2006

In short: Great atmosphere under no pressure. In full: I was probably fortunate to run the SHM on its 25th anniversary which made it an extra special event for the area and attracted alot of ocal attention, making this a great day out. The course is pretty flat with the odd incline here and there. Organisers moved the start about 1/2 mile this year which made much more sense and provided more room for spectators, hopefully this is a permanent change. This race is certainly not just for the die hard athlete as there are plentt of fun, charity and fancy dress runners attending every year. All in all a great day, great atosphere, great organisation and a cracking finishers medal to boot. Highly recommended. Date of review: November 7, 2006

In short: The Industrial Estate is depressing if you're a slower runner,no support which made it torturous In full: Last year was great, but this year I struggled and enduring the lonliness of that estate made it worse. Please get more loos, add an extra drinks station on that estate (preferably) and bring back the tee shirts, they'd sold out by the time I finished. The home made cakes were nice though and as always the marshalls are very friendly and supportive. Not a favourite this year. Date of review: October 28, 2006

In short: Great racethat never disappoints In full: Every year the organisers come up trumps with great conditions and a well-marshalled course that offers every opportunity for a PB. Well done to all concerned. Date of review: October 26, 2006

In short: Mostly a pretty good race. In full: My thirteenth 1/2 Marathon and 2nd Stroud. I liked the new course layout, I found the quiet and wide industrial estate roads to be quite quick. The only part I didn't like was the road back from the Little Chef R/B towards Stroud with the busy traffic coming up from behind you with no footpath or cones.
All in all though a good fast course. Bit of a shame about T shirts, but if the money raised goes to charity then fair enough. Date of review: October 26, 2006

In short: My first Stroud Half Marathon in 25 years - I still don't know why I haven't done this excellent race before. In full: I've always read good reviews about this race and i can understand why. I've never been to Stroud before but found directions to the race easy to follow and plenty of parking space available. Thought race organisation was very good. Commentator was very pro-active in addressing any queries, so little things like finding loos were easily addressed. Having watched an appallingly badly organised Cardiff Half Marathon the previous week, it was reassuring to see a professional athletic club addressing running issues correctly. The start was smooth and there were helpful predicted time guides on the side of the road to help runners know where they should stand on the start line. Semi-rural race but some nice support out there. Mile markers in the right place (except No:3), I didn't see No:12 but might have simply been tired. I can't see a problem with just two water stations in a half marathon run in the middle of October on an overcast day. Friendly atmosphere throughout. Will be returning to Les Croupiers, who are after all the greatest club on the planet, to encourage a club visit next year! PS Excellent and speedy results service, which i appreciate. In short: Disappointing after last year In full: This was my favourite race last year, but was a little lacking this time, gripes were, not enough water stations and no t-shirt!! I was annoyed at first that it would cost me extra but then to finish and find I couldn't buy one as they'd sold out was doubly infuriating. Oh and the industrial estate bit was just not as nice as running through Stonehouse last year. On the plus side, it didn't rain whilst I was running, and the start organisation went really well. Chip times are the way forward! Date of review: October 25, 2006

In short: Great! Even better if you wear a Stroud Athletics shirt! In full: Much better start this year. Toilets better than last year but always a nightmare at any race. More water stops please. Didn't enjoy new loop, stops that "homeward bound" feeling on the A419. Disappointed we didn't get a tshirt even though prepared with cash! Don't enjoy running with the traffic but must be organisational nightmare to stop. Big thanks to all the supporters, they spot your Stroud shirt and really give you a huge boost. Someone even commented to us during the race on how friendly the club and supporters are. Well done. A PB for both of us! Thank you, will be back! Date of review: October 25, 2006
