In short: Local race In full: I live very locally now and it's the second time I've done the 8.2 mile race. The race is flat and fast.
The organisation is very good but it should be for the price of the race. The race price is very steep.
There are other local races which use some of the same routes that have managed to keep their costs down. If the main costs are due to the location then maybe the organisers need to move it slightly so it doesn't include the town centre.
I suspect some people also had trouble getting to the race as unfortunately when the race was organised the organisers would not have know that South West Trains would have decided to do engineering works. Date of review: July 23, 2009
In short: Worthy of a Repeat Performance In full: Good crowd of people, well organised, pleasant route despite two laps, certainly beginner friendly and worthy of return in future years. Date of review: April 11, 2008
In short: Good race. Nice course. Sore toe. In full: I seem to do this race most years and it looks like it goes from strength to strength in terms of numbers. It is a good two lap course with enough changes of scenery to keep it interesting. I thought at the start that it was potentially getting over subscribed and crowded but this probably helps to slow me down to a more sensible/ sustainable pace and it soon spreads out. (Anyway the crowds are good prep pre FLM the start of which IS a complete shambles). It is increasingly pricey and must be a very big money spinner (it's also very well sponsored) but that is our choice to pay and run or not. I have a cupboard full of these mugs but actually quite like them and not sure about people's 'need' for medals. There is plenty of free stuff on offer at the finish anyway if that's why you enter these things... Agree the toilets are a shambles. Only real complaint was a sore big toe but not sure I can blame that on anyone but myself!!! Date of review: April 4, 2008
In short: Too expensive and toilets woefully inadequate In full: Poor value for the entrance fee. Very crowded and disorganised start. The run itself was good and the marshalls friendly. Toilet situation was a joke - I always expect to queue at every race for the toilets but this was something else. Date of review: April 4, 2008
In short: Toilet situation is horrendous! In full: Positives - a good race, friendly marshalls. Negatives - the queue for the toilet stretched almost to the start line and a medal (rather than a mug) would have been nice. Date of review: April 3, 2008
In short: overpriced and does not give you what it states in the brochure. In full: i paid 20 pounds and all i received was a mug i thought the prise was a t shirt and a memento i also missed out on a goody bag but hay i saw another runners and i realised i had not missed out on much.also the £3 parking and the £1 baggage is a complete rip off,i understood when i entered the race that it was free parking all in all i would have been happy with a medal i could by a mug from a cheap shop for 50p i dont useually moan but this race has left me dissapointed to the degree where i might stop entering events .I will be contacting the organisers requesting my money back Date of review: April 3, 2008
In short: Good race, fairly flat, narrow in places, well organised In full: A nice flat race here where I was able to knock 8mins of my pb for the distance. Narrow paths are awkward at the beginning of the race but fine when the pack splits up. Toilet facilities are a real concern, it seems access to just one set are available and the queue was back to the start line. Needs to be sorted for next year Date of review: April 2, 2008
In short: Nice and flat, good marathon training run In full: The race was good fun and is a good training run for the London marathon. I liked that it was two loops as I could easily assess my pace and knew what was coming up! Downsides were the toilets (or lack of them) and having to overtake on the road because the pavements weren't wide enough. Date of review: April 1, 2008
In short: Always fun, but the toilet situation is getting worse In full: This is my local race and I've run it 5 times now. Always enjoy the race but the toilet situation gets worse each year. This year the queues were by far the worst I've seen. I think it could be due to a growing field - but in that case they are getting more race fees and so can afford more portaloos!
