In short: Great race In full: This was my first multi day Ultra with very little training due to a few niggles and mainly laziness. Great organisation and the other runners were amazing, good comraderie the whole weekend. It was tough but I managed to get the legs going each morning. I was happy with my time but as always want to beat it so I expect to be back next year. Get in early, the word will spread about this race! Date of review: November 25, 2010
In short: Fantastic! In full: My first multi-day race, and what a fantastic introduction this was. Tough (as expected) but great fun. The banter was great, the marshalls helped raise morale when the legs were tiring, and the organisation was spot on. Well done Neil and team! Date of review: November 25, 2010
In short: Made so much easier by the friendly banter In full: This was a tough one. My first ultra and the terrain was challenging. My walk uphill & run the rest tactics worked well. Due to the walkers/runners/elite spacing in groups going off you were not far from any other competitor thoroughout the 3 days. A quick "hello, are you suffering as well" really helped during the tough times. Good choice for the overnight stay, everything well communicated & both venues were withing walking (Albeit slow) distance of shops, cashpoints & pubs (I avoided the latter) I misheard the t-shirt collection at the finish so did not pick one up, e-mailed Neil (The Chief) & has replied within a couple of hours about popping one in the post. Just one example of how well this event is organised. Hope the Ridgeway sign isn't missing at mile 7 next year!! Date of review: November 16, 2010
In short: The Druids Challenge is Magical In full: This must be one of my most enjoyable events I have ever done. It is not easy, in fact it is quite tough. The xnrg team look after you so well you soon forget any discomfort.
In short: Well organised, challenging event which takes places over 3 days. In full: Enjoyed my first multi-day event. The £120 entry fee was reasonable value for money considering that covered 3 days support, 2 nights basic accomodation, 2 days meals and breakfasts, supplies and support on all 3 days plus a goody bag including a buff headwear and t-shirt plus hot drinks and cakes at each end of days stops/evenings.
The XNRG crew did a good job of organising the race and ensuring people enjoyed the event.
The race conditions were not easy this year with heavy rain the week before making ground conditions tricky in places but this was all part of the challenge and somewhat expected for a mid-November race.
The banter and chat between competitors both before, after and during the race was great as people shared experiences of the day or different events. The multi-day event gives people a chance to talk to other like minded people who enjoy the challenge of Ultra events.
One real positive note, is that the XNRG team took plenty of pictures during the 3 days which they have kindly hosted on the internet for free for competitors viewing. It's a nice little "extra" when you can actually view/download pictures for free and add them to blogs/send emails to friends/facebook etc without having to fork out some ridiculous price that many other event photography companies charge. So a big thanks to the XNRG team for this extra.
I am likely to run this event again. Date of review: November 15, 2010
