In short: 3.5 laps of Finsbury Park - Friendly, but it is what it is! In full: I'm slightly regretful about the 'average' rating. Perhaps I've been spoilt/fussy over the years. Local parking was tricky even on a Sunday (Residents' permits abound - best to pretend you're a shopper at the local Superstores at the NE corner of the park!!), local club-competition feel to the race, not exactly a big budget event which had its pluses/minuses, however the organisers/marshals were friendly and efficient(once we'd spotted the pale orange start line on the tarmac) and encouraged everyone equally, the back markers as much as the leaders. The field was small enough to avoid congestion and confusion despite 3.5 laps over the same paths, so it was easy to run your own race. The lap format was unavoidable, the course was somewhere between the road runner's and the CC runner's definition of 'flat', but started and finished uphill which was the unfriendliest aspect of the day, apart from the local traffic wardens being so alert on a Sunday morning. Victoria Park in Hackney is a better venue as it's bigger, as is Regent's Park, but the host club did a good and welcoming job and well done to them! I'd do it again as it's relatively local for me. Maybe I call it 'average' as I've come to expect such enjoyable and friendly experiences from the road running world? Date of review: March 6, 2007
In short: Efficiently organised London 5 miler In full: A fairly low-key race in Finsbury park, but a nice run and well organised. Very good T-shirt (anyone who missed it should have read the race instructions more carefully!) and a pleasant run; a few hills but that makes the racing all the more fun. In short: What goes up must come down! In full: There’s an uphill start and an uphill finish and I don’t think any part of the course in-between is flat. But that does mean there are some great downhill sections. Well-organised, friendly marshals and a great T-Shirt. It’s good to have a race like this in central London rather than having to trek miles outside and rely on dodgy Sunday train services. Oh, and as it was my first 5 mile race, I even got a PB! In short: Some challenging gradients but a good, fast course. Wouldn't say this was a fun run. Lots of club runners! In full: I've run this race for the last two years now and It's very well organised. Couple of tough gradients which get more challenging after the fourth attempt. I really enjoy this run as the weather's beginning to improve at this time of year (Although NOT today) and it gives me something to train for after Christmas. Only complaint would be that it's impossible to hear if the race has started, very understated.
Good fun – recommended!!! Date of review: March 4, 2007
