In short: Good Race but not sure i'd run again In full: i did 2:16, but was targetting 2:12.. so take this into account with my review..i'm at the 3hour marathon level so an average runner..
The good > small race, > no issues with crowds or getting into your race pace
the things they should consider.. > it was a warm day , I'm would have preferred another water stop (but equally almost athletes had their own water stop ! -poor show guys.. and actually against race rules too!! Either share the water to everyone or dont do it.. You only cheered on your runners and did not share water !..)
> easy race number pick up and bag store / transport that worked well
> at the start.. they should have provided mens urnals.. as that would have reduced ques.. one or two more toilets were really needed..
i found 3 laps hard work.. especially passing tail enders that were running 3 side by side.. i've fed back the turning point comments to the organisers.. so they should take those on board.. i found the course quite hard..
a very nice t-shirt well done guys.. nice one..not much else in the goodie bag but i dont need much..

In full: Debbie , perhaps your main beef should be with the Organisers and their general lack of water on a very hot day ? As hacker and Carley have commented, the "unofficial" water station was something of a blessed relief with water provided and support given. Yes as you may guess I am a member of that club and our supporters were there primarily yes to support our own runners with their own drinks but they also took along a water barrel to help out others , which as it turned out was much appreciated by many runners on the day. Perhaps come along to one of our races , look at AlmostAthletes.co.uk & you'll see those we organise, you will see what a friendly supportive bunch we are! Date of review: March 23, 2014
In short: Terrible Race with awful organisation In full: I normally like to give a balanced view, but unfortunately nothing positive to share..... 1 - very hot day and there was simply not enough water stations and they then gave you it in a plastic cup(thank goodness for that friendly running club who shared their water). I wasn't quite sure how I was suppose to drink plenty of water as per the advice of the safety marshall without stopping which I didn't want to do. 2 - multiple loop race - very drab 3 - car park was a very long way away from HQ 4 - why did I get my t-shirt before the start of the race where I had no where to put it as I my stuff was in the car
No doubt this race will soon be consigned to the same fate as the Gloucester 10 and the Gloucester Half Marathon - HISTORY
In short: Drinks Station In full: I would like to reply to Debbie. The drinks station was there on Sunday to support too 48 runners from Almost Athletes. It became apparent that other athletes were struggling. We had sufficient water to hand out to other runners which we did. The fact we ran out of cups and water is proof. The drinks for the Almost Athletes were their own personal drinks, a lot drink flat coke in the last 4 miles. All we did was keep that for them. I don't consider that to be unsportsmanlike, in fact good planning by our Club. If any other wanted a drink we gave them one, we gave them jelly babies etc. In conclusion, I didn't do anything I would change, I'm proud I supported my Club Runners, I'm equally proud that I gave water to many others runners. Everyone who asked got a drink, Debbie all you bad to do was ask!! Date of review: March 20, 2014
In full: Would like to also mention about the club drinks station. Realise organisers were totally unaware of this but at no time was it made available to other runners on a very hot day was very unsportsmanlike. But this does not detract froma well organised race Date of review: March 20, 2014
In short: Who ordered that heat? In full: My first 20 mile race as opposed to just a training run. Great warm up for spring marathons, a tad warm for me but this obviously not the organisers fault. Quite a late start as well which meant a lie in for us locals. Although not an Almost Athlete I did appreciate the jelly baby & encouragement I received from them..."If you can't walk a straight line, run one"...especially as I was wobbling along struggling to get a gel out of my belt. It's not usually a great thing to get lapped but was surprisingly pleasant to be supported by and to cheer for the faster runners. Great camaraderie. T-shirt is nice, liked that you could order your size. All in all a good race and on my doorstep. Will see you next year. Date of review: March 18, 2014
In short: Water Stations In full: I read a post earlier from someone complaining about a Club only water station. Just to give him the facts. The Almost Athletes had 48 in the race. I was asked to help with a drinks station to assist the group. We did that, and I'm very pleased to say we gave water to everyone else who asked, together with jelly babies. Simple adage in life whoever you are, DRX., if you don't ask you don't get. I'm leased to say that those who did got plenty of water!! Date of review: March 17, 2014
In short: Enjoyed it with one issue In full: Really enjoyed the race, well organised and extremely well marshalled (and enthusiastically). 2 short hills which weren't too bad (except 3rd lap!). 2 water stations were well organised and nicely located. The only issue (common theme from discussions and from 4 of our party) was a club only water station at the top of one the hills - didn't like this and felt a club only station was appropriate - poor show! In short: Excellent race In full: Great race. Well marshalled. Superb value. I had heard reports of it being 'boring' - well I disagree. Beautiful scenery and great support. Super atmosphere. Suggestion for improvement - have better signage to direct runners from the finish to the car park. Will certainly do this again when next training for a marathon. Date of review: March 17, 2014
