In short: Essential event for the diary of anyone training for a Spring marathon
In full: This was my third visit to the Gloucester 20 in three years and the second on this new course to the east of the motorway. I wrote at some length in my review of the 2010 event and so will keep it brief this year! (I am also backfilling some gaps in my reviews, so this one is being written some time after the event.)

In 2010, I found the new course quite disappointing compared with the old Longney/Epney course; the hills are about the same, but the course somehow feels a bit more enclosed and also has a section on a busy road. However, running it for the second time, I couldn't really highlight any particular faults with it and would certainly do it again.

No particular comments to add this year. As for the run itself, I ran the first 18 miles at a steady 8-minute mile pace with fellow club member Brian, then struck out for home with a couple of 7-minute miles for a finish in 2:38.

Nice technical T-shirt this year - thanks as usual to the organisers and the marshals.

In conclusion, as nearly every reviewer has already observed, this is an excellent event for anyone training for London or another Spring marathon.

In short: Ideal pre-marathon tester
In full: Well organised, great parking and other facilities. Slightly low key start but a nice run through the Gloucestershire countryside afterwards. Lack of first water station caught me out a bit but overall a nice way to spend a Sunday morning. Thanks to all those who organised it.

In short: Good training for any marathon, but the open roads make for a rubbish last lap.

In short: Ronseal
In full: Timed to coincide with training for marathon runners. Scenic once out of the industrial estate. Good & useful t-shirt. Busier road junctions well marshalled, Water station not ready at far end of loop on first lap. Weather picked up throughout the day, possibly more water required but think the weather may have caught them out

In short: It does what it says - a 20 mile road race
In full: Good organisation, although a quiet send off at the start. Nice tee-shirt and another 20 in the bag!

In short: No frills, well organised race
In full: Good training for a Spring marathon [which most participants seemed to be doing] Not flat, but the three laps were not as bad as they sounded. Not many unattached runners, but good mix of speed and no crowding. Easy access and a great technical T shirt

In short: 3 lap race with hill climbs
In full: The hill climb was a tiring because it had to be climbed three times. The organisation was pretty good; although the end wasn’t that obvious (I would have liked a sign saying 400 metres etc. The finish line its self was confusing because it wasn’t obvious if it was at the start or end of the coned session. I wasn’t offered a mug, not sure if they ran out of them? All in all a good hard training session for London Marathon; with a PB thrown in for good measure.

In short: Well marshalled, well organised and Very friendly.
In full: Failed to complete due to injury, but very impressed by the set up. Good parking just off the motorway and a short way in we are in the country. Lots of helpful marshalls. Will definitely be trying again next year. Thanks to all that helped make it possible.

In short: Well organised rural road race
In full: One of several 20-milers around this time obviously geared at the big spring marathons.

Out, 3 laps of just over 6 miles and back. A couple of small hills but nothing to worry about really. Run on open roads but with limited traffic it never really was a problem

Easy to get to, well marshalled, water stations every 3 miles and a banana and excellent technical t-shirt at the end. A great session and useful 20-miler in the bag!
