In short: This was my first full marathon and it was very tough, but a fantastic course through beautiful scenery. Beware first drinks not until nearly nine miles.

In short: A hard course to run - more of an endurance test
In full: On grounds of public health water should be available before 8.8 miles, and more frequently after that. There were very few mile markers which I found discouraging.

In short: Always a fantastic event!
In full: Always a fantastic friendly event across some of the best scenery on the south coast and a tribute to the organisers with brass bands and pipers to spur participants on.

Loads of food and drink at the checkpoints and probably one the only marathon where you can put on weight during the event if you try hard enough (and great to be greeted by the coastguards dispensing drinks before Birling Gap) and there’s a free meal at St Bede's school at the finish to round off the event. Superb all round!

In short: Quite simply the most fun (and hardest) race I've ever done!
In full: Living in a very flat, rather urban area I just don't do off-road or hilly and after a lot of injury issues I wasn't really in marathon shape but that was THE most fun. Organisation is great, marshals are friendly and the food - both on course and at the finish - was most welcome.

Would I do it again - YES. Sadly tho' I don't think it'll be next year as it'll likely clash with Washington mara which is my 'must do' race of 2008.

In short: If you can run this race all the way you are a running legend !
In full: This is one tough marathon. Supposedly the toughest in England (I wouldn't argue with that!).

The start is up a short steep hill and from then on its hilly, hilly, hilly. It gets really tough when you get to the steps in the woods (especially the 2nd set - although the piper did help). From 19 miles onwards the course is positively mountainous ! The Seven Sisters (appropriately called the 7 bitches b y someone!) are very steep in places and I don't know anyone who ran all of them - maybe the winner did ? (legenedary performance by the winner - well done mate - I hear he runs in the Alps)

Big thankyou to the marshalls - excellent support and organisation - shame about the road crossing where we had to wait though.

Food afterwards was very welcome too and the price of the race is very reasonable considering this.

Hopefully, I'll be back next yr (although I swore I wouldn't at the end of the race !)

In short: A fantastic event.
In full: There are a lot of races that could learn from this event. The organisation was superb, plenty of drink stations, and lots of very supportive marshals. The atmosphere was great - chatted to all sorts of people on way round. It really is two races, with a 20 mile undulating course followed by six miles of hills - Seven Sisters and Beachy Head itself!
The warm meal at the end is a great touch and a good way to relax and swap war stories.
Once again, well done to all involved.
