In short: Ouch! Who put that bloody big hill right at the end?! In full: My local Half Marathon, a real tough cookie! Well organised at the start, fantastic support all the way round, great marshalls and a great finish right in the city centre. The course is a real challenge, lots of hills, seemed like the were all uphill as well! The final hill at Milton Road is an absolute heartbreaker but once that's done its an easy cruise into the city centre for a glorious finish! Date of review: January 29, 2011

In short: Not really for slower runners In full: I didn't really enjoy this one, as I feel it's not really a race for slower runners. My PB is 2:37, but roads were quickly reopened during my race & marshals withdrawn. Very annoying having cars flying out of side roads every few steps nearly running me over as I tried to get past people as I ran on the pavement. I nearly got lost a few times too as no marshals. Speaking to other people during the race it was clear others had actually got lost & gone the wrong way. I ran the whole of it, but I feel it's a race for faster runners only.
Good support from the locals though. Medal nice, though disappointed it didn't say something on it that mentioned it was a HM.

In short: Thank you Sexy Stoke! In full: I have a bit of a soft spot for Stoke-on-Trent and had to come back for this one. It wasn't the easiest course to target for a PB - which made getting one even more awesome. Finished in 1:44 and still can't quite believe it, especially after that killer incline just before the last mile. Vicious course, but fantastic race - thank you Sexy Stokies! In short: Everything a half marathon should be In full: Just an awesome race, this year I just ran below my half marathon race pace deliberately to enjoy it for the first time in 3 years and it made it fantastic just to soak up the atmosphere and remember why I love running in the first place. Thank you to my fellow Stokies out there for your support, you did us proud as usual! Date of review: June 16, 2010

In short: A fantastic event In full: The atmosphere on this race makes the pain of the hills worthwhile. At 12 miles my legs were shot but the last 200 yards or so are lined with hundreds of people shouting you home and I managed a sprint finish that I've never even achieved on shorter events. The addition of different medals to me also adds a new dimension, especially if your past performance puts you on the borderline between gold/silver, silver/bronze or bronze/standard you'll definitely have the extra incentive of wanting the better medal. The is a must do event for me. Date of review: June 15, 2010

In short: Hills of Stoke In full: There's a sadistic organised who planned this half putting Milton Road on this course. What a great well supported half marathon. Hats off to the people of Hanley that supported this race all long it's route, Thankyou for the water, Jelly Babies and the showers, they were appreciated. A well organised challenging event. First time I've run it, I will be back. Date of review: June 15, 2010
