In short: Fantastic race . . . In full: I was spectating this year and had a chance to cheer a few mates on. I used this route to prepare for "Race the Train" another good race taking place the same weekend but will be back for the Rugby Rover next year. This is my favorite race of the Summer. In short: Hehe what a race In full: My first non road race and i can honestly say that it was and is one of my favourites, plenty of stop starts for steeper climbs and the styles made it as hard on my head to concerntrate on not trippin up as it was on me legs. Well worth doing again if only to actually run as opposed to hobble the last couple of miles. Date of review: August 19, 2008
In short: Lovely race, tough in places, good atmosphere In full: Really enjoyed this race, only my second non road race. It was pretty tough in places, like the first hill and the one back out of the woods after about 14 miles but overall not anywhere near as bad as I was expecting after reading some of the reviews. Beatufiully scenic and well organised, really friendly too, even those right at the front made time to chat (as they passed me!) Date of review: August 19, 2008
In short: tough fun In full: Great run this. After driving down 100 miles from oop North last year and realising I wouldn't make the start 15 minutes away when I was still in Matlock, I arrived in plenty of time this year and it was well worth it. I think it ranks with the Lakeland trail races. Just as hard, and slippier underfoot. The organisation was 1st rate and everyone was made welcome. Plenty of styles adds to the fun. Apologies to the guy below if I took all the hot water. Thanks Belper. Date of review: August 18, 2008
In short: An exceptional race. Highly recommended !!! In full: Although a local runner (I live in Belper) this was the first time I have had a chance to run this well organised and challenging race. Having done a lot of hill work on my own local runs in the area I was still left breathless with some of the climbs but that all added up to a fantastic sense of achievement when cossing the finish line... and the great thing is that now I know the course I can hone and fine tune all the hard bits so that next year I can spend more time lapping up the glorious scenery. If I thought I loved running before this race then it has just got even better !!! I take my hat off with a big thank you to all the staff at the rugby club and also to the volunteers who helped to make the event so enjoyable...:-)... Thanks also to all the great sports who turned up to make this an outstanding sunday. I will see you all next year !!! Date of review: August 18, 2008
In short: Wow! Hard but worth it! In full: I had heard how incredibly hard this race was and was really nervous when race day arrived! Yes the hills were erm...nails, but walking up them helped!! The marshals were very friendly and helpful and the organisation was second to none. Still walking funny but It's on my list for next year. Date of review: August 18, 2008
In short: Overall this was a really good race ,very pleased i did it. In full: The only problems with this race were: 1) number of stiles, there was lots 2) the start and first mile or so were really congested 3) the finish was a bit monotonous (but nice and flat).
Apart from that though it was really good, with a bit of tinkering here and there it could be as good as the Lakeland Trails. Date of review: August 18, 2008
