In short: Flat race with a potential PB (shame about the strong wind) In full: My first 10k, the wind made the second half difficult! Thought £15 was a bit pricey for a 10k but would do it again. Finish line was difficult to make out as there was no sign (I am assuming this was due to the weather), instead, a few marshalls or cones could have been positioned appropriately on the grass leading to the finish, as it wasn't clear where it was. In short: Nice race, shame about the wind! In full: My first ever 10km race, and my fist race since a half-marathon in 1986....
The wind, while it was on our backs, was fine. The wind, while it was in our faces, was foul.
The lack of a clearly marked finish line was an issue, nothing to aim for really, but I understand it owuld have blown away! Not sure why the last few 100 metres were on grass when all else, bar the last bit through the woods, was on hard surfaces.
But a very noob friendly event, and on a still day, well it is as flat as a pancake so must be PB territority for everyone. Date of review: July 11, 2011
In short: Very good PB potential In full: This was a great evening run. Even with the very windy conditions I was within 2 min of my PB thanks to the very flat route. The start was a little cramped and took me 50 seconds to cross the start line but no real problems. The turnout was great and a very friendly atmosphere with the last few hundred meters was a hard push into the wind. Hopefully next year without the wind my PB will be well and truly beaten. In short: Sadly the wind put paid to PB. In full: Huge potential without the wind to destroy your PB. Good to hear that the start and finsh lines were being reviewed. The starting area was a little narrow. Never run in such windy conditions!! Well done to all who organsied and marshalled the race in tricky conditions. Personally I would prefer a 7pm start to 7 30pm. Date of review: June 10, 2011
In short: Ooooh, that wind!! In full: Liked the new course, though I do miss the running track start and finish. You could do some serious damage to your current PB as the course is as flat as the proverbial pancake. Such a pity the wind put paid to my getting a PB this year, as I reckon I was on course to get one too! Liked the little trail turn just before you head for the finish. Nice medal with decent ribbon. Will definitely be back again next year, hopefully without the wind! Why can't we have more local midweek summer evening races like this? Date of review: June 10, 2011
In short: Race Secretary Feedback In full: Hi all, race secretary here... pleased you enjoyed the race over the new course. I think we are going to tinker with start/finish location for next year to improve again. Also promise a few more finish line goodies for you; bananas, choccy or crunch bars. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your race feedback. Date of review: June 10, 2011
In short: Got my PB - despite the horrific wind! In full: Brill race, well organised, except for the wind which they couldn't help. First 5k a dream with the wind helping us all along. Turn back at 5k felt like slamming into a brick wall! Was v pleased to get sub-60 (my first) and can't wait for next year as I reckon without the wind I could really do that course some damage :-) Date of review: June 9, 2011
In short: Great PB potential but the wind put the mockers on it this year. In full: Well organised and ran like clock-work. Everyone agreed that the wind made it very challenging but there were still plenty of smiling faces willing to let me video them after the race!
