In short: Special because it's local, but locals few & far between.
In full: This was my first race ever at any distance, entering after the closing date. Having been obese only two months earlier and NOT training for any race, I completed it 32mins faster than the 1hr 20mins I thought it would take me.

NEGATIVES: Some organisers unsure as to where people should go and sign posting wasn't very clear. We were made to wait far too long at the start, in the cold, got cramp in both calves AT THE VERY START! It's a bit difficult in the first half, as there are numerous undulations and THAT narrow passage. There isn't much in the way of scenery, but it was nice to run past my old school! The km markers weren't very clear, had to ask the marshals, not easy when your gasping for air. Finally, don't expect many locals to give encouragement or provide atmosphere, other than right at the finish.

POSITIVE: Local residents could enter for FREE! have to pay in 2010 though. Good to see some famous sporting stars attend such as Tessa Sanderson & Michael Watson and famous locals such as the first 'Apprentice' winner Tim Campbell. Though there isn't much scenery, it was nice to run past the partially constructed Olympic stadium and run through West Ham Park.

Goody bag & medal: Nice white t-shirt with the event name and year on it as a memento and the granola bar and energy drink much appreciated! very decent solid metal medal with the event name and year on it.

Suggestions: Change the route to possibly take in Green Street and the Boleyn ground, you'd get more spectators/supporters.

In short: Fantastic Effort for its First Race!!
In full: Overall the race was well organised, great atmosphere and great scenery (Olympic Village). There was also good organisation in keeping the roads clear for the runners. The only negative, were issues with checking in bags, which started to resolve itself towards the end.

Looking forwards to next year!!!

In short: Nice race - shame about bottleneck.
In full: A nice local race, train to Stratford an hour beforehand, walked around shopping centre to keep out of cold, no problems with baggage, freezing while waiting for start, nice to hear Tessa and Michael Watson. Once race started weather weent nice and only issue was bottle neck. Eveyone we overtook, pushed in so we had to overtake them again! Maybe resolved for next year.

Excellent pack, t-shirts TOO BIG!!! I pushed wife towards Tessa who gave her a medal!! Wow!!

In short: Loved it - even with the bottle neck
In full: Okay the bottle neck was frustrating, and it did ruin my time, but the course and the people made up for it. It was great fun and the marshalls were so lovely. I prefer races filled with mixed abilities so this was a definite winner for me. Will be back next year

In short: Really nice race, great to see stadium, but bottleneck and walking was awful!
In full: I really enjoyed the race, and it was fantastic to run alongside the semi-constructed stadium.
The bottleneck and single file walking was awful though... putting a bit of a dent in any pb times. Still, I'm sure the otherwise excellent organisers can fix it for next year. I would definitely run it again.
Thanks

In short: Lovely race - super friendly marshalls - terrible parking
In full: Good race, friendly people, nice route... but terrible pre-race organisation. Directions in the race materials were misleading and parking was a nightmare. It took us an hour to find a spot - which meant we started the race half an hour late (by which time they'd removed the chip sensor at the start). We'd definitely do it again - but next time we'll jump on the tube!

In full: This was special as it was the first Newham Classic 10k. Great atmosphere at the beginning with Tessa Sanderson. The course was interesting and picturesque in parts - taking you up to the impressive building site of the Olympic Stadium and through West Ham Park. Enthusiastic public support throughout the course. Narrow for the first 10k with cones keeping it so, but then pb possibilities as it is a flat course. Communication was poor.I came 2nd 45+ vet and asked if there was a prize and was told no by one organiser. Went home and e-mailed the race director to be told that in fact I had won £70 prize money.
