In short: Great race but expensive In full: It continues to be one of the more expensive half marathons but it is a favourite of mine. Despite being out of sorts and putting in a woeful performance on the day, the fact that it is such a scenic race kept me going, despite wanting to stop after mile 3! I still can't understand where the money goes though! Date of review: May 14, 2012

In short: Brilliant marshals and well organised In full: As everyone has said it was unusually warm for March but then being British we'd complain if it had been chucking it down!! I personally would also prefer bottled water - even smaller 250ml bottles - as I can't run and drink from cups and it did cost me valuable time but then at least I got some water and didn't pass out...
The plentiful, cheery marshals were just superb! Big thank you to all of them for their encouragement and support around the entire course, it really did help.
The course was slightly more "undulating" than I'd anticipated with one incline in the latter stages that nearly killed me off but I did think it was nice course to run.
Bit of a mare trying to get out of the rugby club at the end but there were 4,000 runners in a predominantly residential area trying to escape at the same time.
Overall, well done to Wilmslow Running Club for organising a great event and I'll be back next year! Date of review: March 29, 2012

In short: Great half marathon In full: 3rd time I've ran the half marathon and each time have PB'd - so obviously one of my faves! Very well organised, friendly race. Nearly missed the start due to traffic - so, make sure you leave with plenty of time people! Bottles are easier to drink from, but most people just take on a bit then throw away so personally I think cups are better. If really need to drink the lot, stop. Date of review: March 29, 2012

In short: Great Race but please - take your rubbish home! In full: I love this race. Very friendly, well organised and glorious weather this year which added to the challenge. Can't make my mind up whether to agree with the comments about the water or not – I struggle to drink from the cups but they are great for throwing over your head - which in the heat we had was a good option! Bottled water is easier to drink but the selfish minority who drop their almost full bottles in the middle of the road create a bit of a hazard for those in their wake - it's like kicking a brick! So I can't make my mind up which is best. Don't like the iPod runners - have to agree that they run blissfully unaware of being in the way of ambulances or other runners trying to get past - happily stabbing me in the face with their elbows as I fight my way between them and the kerb! They’re not allowed on safety grounds so leave them at home. But finally a plea to all runners to take their gel wrappers home with them. We ran through some beautiful rural areas on Sunday with countryside around us but I saw lots of runners throwing their empty gel packs into hedges, fields and onto verges without a thought for the long term consequences. It is still dropping litter – don’t do it – take it home – Thank you!!

In short: A great race with a great atmosphere! In full: This is the second year I have done this race, and it will always feature on my race calendar. However there are a couple of points that would make an already brilliant event even better.
The first is the water situation. This year was unseasonably warm, which has only highlighted a problem that existed last year. Please please please can we have bottled water nest year. I'm the organisers could find sponsorship for the water, possibly from a big supermarket chain? I ran the Seville marathon in February, and the day of the race was also unseasonably hot. The organisers doubled the drinks stations, made isotonic drinks available every 10k and ensured that there were enough extra water bottles to cope with the weather. I'm sure this is something that the organising committee will learn from in future years.
My big rant however (sorry to rant but this is important) is to do with those runners who ran with iPods, mp3 players etc. due tho the hot weather there were several runners who found themselves in a pretty serious medical condition requiring emergency medical treatment. The ambulance crews did a fantastic job of getting past the runners safely and efficiently as possible. However, all three that went past me were significantly held up by runners not able to hear the sirens due to iPods. The race rules clearly stated that iPods should not be worn, and for good reason, some of the race is run on very narrow roads. This isn't a rant at the organisers, more at the selfish runners who potentially jeopardised fellow runners health. PLEASE DON'T RUN WITH IPODS, IT ENDANGERS YOU AND OTHER RUNNERS!
Ok sorry for that, I'll go and lie down in a darkend room to calm down.
Thanks to the organisers. I really love this race, and can't wait to run it again next year.
Cheers. Chris Date of review: March 29, 2012

In short: Magnificient, well organised, great PB material /suitable for those seeking first half marathon In full: My comments will echo some of what has already been written. The Wilmslow Half Marathon is a Great run with Fantastic organisation.
I too saw huge numbers of marshalls everywhere who were very encouraging and supportive. Great facilities and parking at the rugby club and access is much easier than in other runs I regulary paricipate in.
The whole event had a great sense of teamwork, community and a family atmosphere. It was brilliant to have such limitless amounts of support all the way round. The only problem was with drinks - cups at the water stations, which maybe would have been fine on any other, however not for the heat on that day. Most experienced runners will have been able to adapt, but because this event caters for a broad spectrum of ability levels maybe bottled water would have been more appropriate. Some runners can't drink enough from the cups without spilling if their trying to keep running. Some of the quite young children handing out cups of water coped excellently, much to their credit and giving of their free time. In good old traditional British fashion the event organisers 'adapted and overcame', cups and bins of water were a good idea. I agree with previous comments, bottles of water really needed at the finish though as alternative to powerade. *Fantastic warm friendly reception at the finish, 'as always', great goody bag, technical T shirt, Quality medal and my chip time was OK too!
Nice stepping stone for the VLM 2012. Overall, one very happy satisfied runner. Thanks to the race organiser, all of the Wilmslow Half Team and Asics the key sponsor, who made it a safe, secure and fun for a great days running.

In short: Good event and quite an eye opener In full: This was my first half marathon and was using it as training for Belfast Marathon in May and im happy i did this as ive soon realised my chocolate knee wouldnt be able to hold out for a whole marathon. Marshalls were really good and encouraging!! and the support from the local people was superb especially on the hill around 9/10 miles which killed me off.
Have to say wasnt as flat as advertised, was quite shocked by the amount of undulating parts and i was quite dissapointed the fact it didnt really go through Wilmslow just flirted the outskirts. Date of review: March 28, 2012
