In short: Good race, but not 'flat and fast'... In full: ...and no medal. Every other event I have participated in has had a finisher's medal, and whilst this isn't the main reason for running, it's certainly a factor. My family are quite proud of my collection; a water bottle doesn't quite jingle with all the others.
The course was undulating, not flat as advertised, but constantly climbing or descending. None of the hills were steep, certainly not by North Wales standards, or prolonged, but they just kept coming.
Otherwise, a thoroughly enjoyable event. The start on the bridge was nice, with the brass band playing. The route was wonderfully scenic, on closed roads, with views across the water for most of the route, a section running alongside the beach and small waterfalls next to the road. The marshalls were great, and the runners very supportive. The organisation was good, though for next time a couple more portaloos at the start would reduce queues, and a marshall supervising the bag drop at the end should be essential, otherwise it all went like clockwork. I would happily do it again, and it was definitely the kind of event you'd recommend to a novice. Just... please can we have a medal next year? Date of review: May 15, 2012

In short: Great scenery, kind weather and a tacky 'memento' In full: Glorious scenery and for once kind weather made this a very memorable run. Not sure why this was billed as a 'flat' run, its hilly, my Garmin graph looks like a rollercoaster. Biggest disappointment was the bespoke slate medal advertised had somehow become a 'bespoke' plastic bottle...Whats that all about? (money?) Unforgivable Mr race organiser, took the shine off an otherwise enjoyable day out. Date of review: May 14, 2012

In short: Sun, Sea and Scenery In full: Fantastic setting, wonderful weather and overall a good race. The race was advertised as flat but by definition it had hills- maybe if you come from a hilly area you don’t think so but for those of us who run real flat courses with no undulations at all this was a challenge and definitely not PB material. Got the feeling that the local population was not too impressed apart from one fantastic lady who had Buddhist prayer flags out flying, and jelly babies for us. Great. This was a memorial race for us and the one overall big disappointment was that lack of slate medal which was advertised when we entered (months ago). Cheap plastic bottle just doesn’t do it for us. We helped a young man at the end who was running his first half ever, and thought how sad to have no real memento for his fantastic achievement. Date of review: May 14, 2012

In short: Lovely start - glorious setting for a race. In full: Impressive to have Menai Bridge closed to traffic for the start - even had a brass band to send runners on their way. Scenery was stunning - first visit to Anglesey and would like to return to see more. It's also nice to get an event t-shirt in a size that fits. Date of review: May 13, 2012

In short: No medal In full: When I signed up, the race info promised a bespoke slate medal. Instead and as the updated race info now states, we get a sports bottle, which you just don't need at the end of a run. Just give us a bottle of water and a medal that will actually commemorate the event for us.
Big disappointment that in an otherwise good day when I was able to set a PB. Date of review: May 13, 2012

In short: Great race great day In full: loved it plus set a new PB well chuffed, it wasn't by any means a hilly course possibly a mild Undulating which in Wales translates to flat(ish).. The scenery was fantastic especially on the return leg with the glorious mountain views. A great race very well organised, fantastic that they managed to close most of the roads to traffic, a credit to the organisers WELL DONE look forward to next year,(hope to have a medal next time!!!).

In short: Not as described at all, very disapointed In full: Where to begin. Potaloos at start line arrived half an hour before race and only 4. Long lines when the race started (very poor organisation). The course was described as fast and flat with a PB potential. The course organisers could not have been more deluded, I was looking forward to a PB but it was totally out of the question. Flat my foot !!! A VERY hilly course. Finish line was cramped with no marshalling to move people on to allow sufficient room for runners. Bag van was unmanned and I had to get in to find my own bag. No Security! In short, Good intentions but a D- from me and thats being generous. Will not be back next year. Date of review: May 13, 2012
