In short: Well organised multi terrain event + cakes & goody bag In full: The organisers have tried very hard to put on a special event...
Good course mark... and enjoyable course around Bewl Water + country lanes . Feed stations in the right places and excellent cakes the finish . Regretfully I missed the start by 5 mins due to a road closure and spent the race trying to catch up. And wearing road shoes in slippery conditions made it all the more difficult but fun. Only fell over once finishing in 1h 50'ish
For improvement next year ,would sugggest the prize giving needs a little more attention i.e one prize per individual + poss using a microphone.
A big thank you to the organisers - This is no doubt a difficult races to organise and they have certainly made it a special race Date of review: July 6, 2007

In short: The mud was a challenge in itself - usually firm underfoot with the potential for a reasonable change of a PB this was not to be the case - spent a lot of time negotiating a safe route around the mud, longed for the road sections for some relief onl In full: would definatley do this again. Atmosphere and aorganisation was brilliant and the free cakes at the end very welcome. Date of review: July 5, 2007

In short: Scenic, mostly flat off-roader with a couple of steep hills at the end In full: Very, very muddy this year. I chose the wrong shoes and paid the price. The organisers advised us b4 the start that the course was 90% firm. WRONG! It was 90% slippy. That aside this is a super course. 14+ miles around Bewl reservoir which gently undulates in and out of trees along the footpath. At mile 11 there are some testing climbs and midway thru the field a few did walk but most shortened their stride and kept going. The race starts and finishes up a steep-ish lane which descends into fields, then thru a stile which forces you to queue to get thru. Then off you go on an uninterupted circuit of the reservoir. I was pleased with my two hour finish time and will be back. Date of review: July 4, 2007

In short: Great race, good people, lovely setting, brilliant organisation. In full: This was a new one for me and, although used to longer distances, I found the uneven and slippery surfaces, the mud banks and the hills quite tough. However, the marshals were excellent and constantly encouraging, the refreshment stations keen and well managed and the other runners engaging (although some were a bit quick for my liking!). I would definitely recommend this to others and it is already in my alender for next year. Date of review: July 3, 2007

In was not taking any chances!! good marshalling and the cakes at the end were most welcome!! would like to do it again with less mud as i was just over 2 hrs. Date of review: July 3, 2007

In short: First time fun in the mud In full: I loved this slipping and sliding challenge. 1st time at any distance over a half and I still ache! I thought the marshals were fantastic especially those who noticed my limp in the final couple of miles. It has also given me a taste for trail running. I will definately be back next year. In short: On a lovely dry day I expect this would be quite a fast scenic run! In full: Fantastic orgnaisation with very friendly and helpful marshalls especially the gentleman at the muddy slope near the end. It was a real mud bath but I would like to come back next year and run it as a dry course. Lovely scenery and the homemade cakes were a hit at the end as was the medal and goody bag. In short: A muddy gem In full: Luckily I didn't believe the announcement that the course was "95% firm" and wore my trail shoes.
Mud, hills, a lake, a brass band and free cake. What more could you possibly want? Date of review: July 3, 2007

In short: had a great time In full: callenging under foot due to the rain we have had over the last week or so,needed to be wearing fell/trail shoes for grip.great organisation and marshalling, course was undulating but pleasant on the eye, medal goody bag and cakes were very nice.the presentation took place in sports hall which really ecoed a lot of noise making the presentation hard to follow the organisers through should look into the way they allocate trophys to many going to the same runners maybe they should adopt halstead marathons trophys one per runner so if you win the outright race and you are vet 2 you dont receive the vet2 trophy that goes to the next competitor.
