In short: A run you wouldn't forget in a while.......... In full: Well I 'll start on a good note, the venue was lovely. But unfortunately organisation was terrible. The race started 50 mins late. Then we ran for about 2 miles, all the first 30 runners had turned back, on the course, because there was no marshal, or no sign to point us in the right direction, and we had come to a T- junction. No one knew where to go. Managed to back track, and find the correct turn. This happened again towards the end of the course. I came out and ended up in the carpark, and had to walk round the fencing, and cut through it, to get to the finish line, while other runners came from a different direction. Again poor marshalling, and no distance markers. I was told by a couple other runners, that the same had happened to them. Goody bag, as promised at the end..... but a banana, a bottle of water, and a couple of advertising leaflets, it consisted of. Not very exciting.... :-( T- shirt that it said you get, never existed. Woah and all that cost me £29!! Was pretty disappointed, as website looked amazing. I feel abit ripped off. Date of review: May 8, 2012

In short: Big let down In full: Where do I start with this one? I felt there were some fundamental basics over looked. Poor directions, later start, lack on information and poorly organised route. It was a lovely area but ultimately it was a letdown. Full Review http://spiketraining.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/race-review-demon-run-bracknell.html Date of review: April 23, 2012

In short: Had great potential but not worth the money. In full: The other reviews have summarised the organisation shambles, although I suppose you can't help it if your car gets stuck? But some communication as to what was going on would have been nice! Good job it was sunny and not chucking it down though.
The way markers could have been clearer, but after the first wrong turn it was ok, you just had to keep an eye out. Some people went the wrong way towards the end, but many other people didn't have a problem following the arrows! :)
But for about £30 it wasn't really worth the money considering the poor organisation, tiny tiny "event village", a below par and very bog-standard medal, and just a banana in your goody bag! No t-shirt as it said on RW.
Plus considering other muddy runs I've done, this one was the least muddy, with a big long bit in the middle with no mud at all. I overheard some other runners in Swinley Forest saying that they could run the route and not be charged, just avoid the obstacles, and considering there weren't many this wouldn't be hard. I think the route needs more offroad sections through the forest and not just along the dirt tracks.
Big thank you to all the young marshalls you were very polite and good at telling you which way to go and warning you of holes, posts etc. I was sure they had to deal with a lot of very fed up runners, so I made sure to thank them as I ran past.
On a whole I will have to hear of some vast improvements to even consider doing this race again. There are currently too many better ones out there. The only plus side was the small field, so after the first two obstacles you didn't have to queue! Date of review: April 23, 2012

In short: a good fun 10mile off road run with a few teething problems. potential to become an excellent race. In full: The positives: a great course (can never go wrong with swinley forest). took in a good undulating route, using trail & forest paths. Obstacles were fun: cargo nets over a muddy & a deep wet ditch; a couple of long boggy ditch wades; a pond wade; forest hill zigzags; and u muddy tunnel to crawl thro... All entertaining in their own special way... lots of mud!!
the negatives: not enough route markers, arrows or marshals (most runners going wrong way at least once), swinley forest is v easy to get lost in. Bottle necking three times in 1st mile, maybe a staggered start next time. Misleading start address on website (but runner were emailed correct info pre race), which lead to long start delay. And no t-shirt as noted on RW. All of which are easily remedied for next time.
Good fun run, enjoyable despite problems. well done to the organisers. a special thanks to all the cadets around the course for putting up with the runners. Will be back in september.

In short: Back to the drawing board. In full: A real shame. This had the potential to be thoroughly enjoyable. Swinley Forest is beautiful and a lovely place to run however it was severely let down by some major mistakes and some minor grumbles.
We arrived at 9.20 only to realise we were at the wrong entrance. Many others also had the same problem. There were no signs or marshalls. We eventually found someone in the cafe who helped. We drove a further 10 minutes or so and it was not easy to find. There were only 2 toilets and no loo roll. The start was delayed by 50 minutes and once running there were limited signs or marshalls at key points. I was in the lead group and ran the wrong way like many others. This was so deflating and once I got to the first net I had lost a lot of time for no reason.
The course was great with some nice obstacles but it would have been better if they were more evenly spread out as there was a while in the middle where there was no obstacle. It would also have been a good idea to have larger obstacles as there was a lot of conjestion at points. This was also the case near the end when the 2 races converged.
There was also poor signage at the end, lots of runners had gone the wrong way and went through the car park.
The series could be good but some serious changes need to be made. The cost was a lot for what you got. The goody bag could have been better and i do not think a t shirt is incentive enough to return. Date of review: April 22, 2012

In short: Fun run through fantastic forest paths (and waist deep mud!!) but let down by organisation In full: Things didn't start too well with a 50 minute delay to the start after having us ready on the starting line 30 minute late.
However, things started to pick up once we started with the first mile putting us through our paces as we clambered through deep muddy puddles, what could best be described as waist deep bogs and thick undergrowth...I must admit I started to wonder how we would get round 10 miles of this terrain...
But just as we settled in to running we were met by the front runners coming back towards us as a lack of signs at a key intersection meant most of the race went off in the wrong direction! This then led to serious queueing at some of the subsequent obstacles (cargo net crawl, more waist deep wading). I'm surprised not to have seen more seriously annoyed runners who got held up by the slower runners who missed the detour!
Thereafter the race was a lot of fun in fantastic surroundings although there were more lost runners in the final few miles - I saw at least 2 groups running to the finishing line via the car park!!
All in all still an enjoyable Sunday morning run and I loved all the obstacles, however, organisation has to be better than this when you are paying nearly £30 for the privilege. Date of review: April 22, 2012
