In short: Wind and speed at the home of British motor racing In full: An excellent run which I would recommend, Quite tricky because the track is undulating and you are either in strong wind or in the back section very hot.
No start mat for the timing chip was annoying as I advised my colleagues not to go to far forward, so they lost time unnecessarily.
At £7 it was good value for money however no memento is poor! A free bottle of water was all we got, a nice motor racing themed medal would be awesome, I'd pay more for that next year! Date of review: May 19, 2009
In short: Impressive scenery but very blustery In full: Another well organised event at Silverstone with straightforward chip collection and an entertaining public announcement system providing updates all night long.
Conditions on the track were very windy with little or no protection offered by the wide open track. But nonetheless the Silverstone circuit is a splendid venue and offers some impressive scenery.
Chip time was a little slower than expected - probably due to not having a start mat but overall a big thumbs up! Although perhaps next year a medal or race memento might be considered? Date of review: May 10, 2009
In short: Well organised, great track definate PB material! In full: Second time of running, as usual great organisation and friendly atmosphere. It's great to run on the Grand Prix track. A bit windy on the back straight this year but calmed around Abbey corner. Shame there was no momento (except a small bottle of water) but the opportunity to get a PB and run at Silverstone is well worth it! Date of review: May 9, 2009
In short: Great to race at Silverstone but why no chip mat at the start? In full: It was good fun to race at the Silvertone Granp Prix track. Everyone was very friendly and there was a good turn out.
I thought the announcer did a great job and chip pick uup was quick and easy.
Only one moan and I'm sure there is a reason for this but I have never been to an event where they did gun to chip timing. My friends and I were a little way back and we were surprised when there was no chip start mat.
The course was good, but due to the wind it made it hard work. The water was appreciated at the halfway mark.
Finish was well organised.
I know this is a cheap race so I wasn't expecting anything but it is always nice to have some momento of your race, t-shirt, medal, bag... I'm not fussy just something would be nice, would pay the little extra for it. Date of review: May 7, 2009
In short: Got to run on the world famous track! Awesome, and so well organised! In full: Coming from Wolverhampton, we had a way to travel, and luckily checked the internet to see that the M6 was blocked solid. So M40 it was.
I hadn't done much training since January, so my sub-45 min 10k wasn't looking good!! Below an hour I would of been happy.
Arriving on the car park at 7pm, well organised parking, and straight to the loos to empty my bladder. A very breezy day, and not long before I was going again.
The announcer was informing runners where to get their chips (timing not potato), and counting down to the start, while interviewing a range of runners.
Walking into the pit lanes of Silverstone race track was fantastic! Knowing of all the greats that have raced here, I was like a big kid, even making engine noises at one point!!!
Anyhooo, the race was very well organised, facilities were close at hand, medics, Lucozade stands from which I had som Carbo-gels, without which, I doubt I would of made it without stopping. There were 1k markers all the way round, although they didn't come quick enough, and a drink station half way round.
A thoroughly enjoyable day, and well worth the drive down. 57mins, so not great, but no way I was going to miss it, trained or untrained.
Thank you to all involved, and I'll see you all next year.
In short: Great race - shame about the wind! In full: As many others have said - a well organised event at a venue that can easily cope with the numbers present and quite a few more.
Silverstone is always susceptible to the wind, but that was the worst I've ever faced there, which was a shame but made for some fun tactical battles sheltering in packs and deciding when to make a brave bid to catch the next group.
A memento at the end would be a nice touch, but other than that no complaints. Date of review: May 6, 2009
