In short: Great Atmosphere, In full: This was a great first half-marathon, as I didn't have a watch so not fussed about the time only completing the course in good spirits and left feeling I could jog a longer distance.
The stewards had a list of names of runners so they could look us up and shout out encouragement to us by name, which was great. Had a family feel from the warm up to the cool down. The scenery was motivational and the heat -my word... was hot hot hot. Really enjoyed eating the food goodie bag on the grass with a bit of shade.
Course could have done with some mile markers and starting earlier so less time jogging in the midday heat.

In short: Fabulous for first time half marathoners! In full: This was my first half marathon and I had a wonderful time. All the marshalls had a participant list, and they'd look for your number as you passed and then they'd call out "keep going X!" It was really sweet! I though they were absolutely superb. Everyone was so friendly, and it didn't feel like a competition - it felt like everyone was just there to have fun! I'll definitely do this one again, now I have the HM bug!! In short: A very worth while event In full: Well I didnt make it the the end of this race, a combination of my being unable to train and the stifling heat. Under differnet circumstances I think I would have thoroughly enjoyed this. The was a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and the 6 laps round the park offered some scenery and shade (though not enough for yesterdays heatwave). The marshalls were great, very encouraging and made the effort to look up runners names from the entry sheets to shout encouragement by name. Perhaps for the time of year though, this race could do with an earlier or even an late afternoon start. Date of review: August 24, 2009

In short: Superb event, shame about the heat In full: This was a small scale event done very well. Six laps of a flat course, mostly on tarmac paths but with two sections on grass and one on gravel. In cooler conditions this would have been a brilliant race but at times I found it very hard to keep running on account of the heat. It was very enjoyable nonetheless. There were two water stations on each lap which is a few more than you would get at other races and they were really needed in the heat. The stewards had a list of names of runners so they could look us up and shout out encouragement to us by name. This was great for lifting the spirits. A medal and certificate for finishers and the food bag we were given was super. A big PB for me but, like others, I found the course a little short. Date of review: August 24, 2009

In short: Would be PB heaven - if not for 30deg heat and 11am start! In full: great first half marathon but like other runners my hopes for a quick time were destroyed by the heat. Didn't appreciate being actively targetted at one or two points by cyclists who found it amusing to cycle straight at you at high speed and then veer away at the last minute. Also the half cups of tepid water at the 2 stops did little to offset the heat and fluid loss. However, great atmosphere and good scenery along the river meant it was still a good run, will definitely run again provided the weather is cooler! Date of review: August 24, 2009

In short: lovely lovely lovely In full: This one had me smiling all the way round - great marshalls - thanks guys - you kept me going - and although i requested Pimms & ice at mile 11 and never got it - just so thankful there was plenty of water left for the slow ones at the back. This was a great day - dead chuffed with my medal AND certificate - and the food goody bag was a really nice touch - even down to the plastic knife to spread the jam!! - lovely to sit in the shade of the trees and have a picnic. Really encouraging marshalls - the guy at the end who had me believe there was someone right behind me and making me 'sprint' - then me looking round and not a soul behind me! - made me smile all the way home - he made me feel like a winner!! see you next year!!....and BOB - you wanted to know why this was so popular - think you only have to read the other reviews!!!
