In short: Always a good event In full: Nice fast course, twice thru the Village where there seemed to be plenty of support for everyone, good organisation. Run on a nice warm spring evening with plenty of options for subsequent local refreshment; what more could you ask for? Two only very slight criticisms: no proper directions from the recommended (and rather distant) car park to the registration point, also the km markers were a little bit out; 1st and 3rd definitely short, 5th long. In short: Another excellent race In full: This is one of my favourite evenings of the year and good to see the usual warm and dry weather back after the monsoon last year!
Well done and thank you to Tattenhall for a well-organised and hugely enjoyable race - if you want a 5K pb, enter this one!
I think the disgruntled guy could do with getting a bit of perspective - there are worse things in life than your evening going a bit wrong, believe it or not. Date of review: May 13, 2008

In short: Fast race around a beautiful village. Good quality entry. In full: Very little to fault with this race. Probably the best 5K I've run in. Organisation was great. Accurate KM markers. Lovely village. Quick entry and a fast course. Not a bowling green flat course but nothing severe. Definite PB potential. Good support around the course. Date of review: May 13, 2008

In short: Fast race in nice village setting In full: I agree with the +ve comments about this race. I PB'd by 12 seconds and didn't have any problems with the organisation, marshalling etc. It's unfortunate that one reviewer had a bad experience, presumably prompted by a lost entry, but these things happen and it's not the fault of the organisers if things get lost in the post. Surely the thing to do was contact the race organisers via their website or RW, where the contact e-mail is listed, before turning up. Date of review: May 12, 2008

In short: Well organised friendly clubbie race, fast course In full: A well organised friendly small clubbie race. Fast course with definite PB potential. Well marshalled, good turnout, easy to find. I'll do it again.
As for Rob Barker's review... I think Rob, that if you took that attitude into the race you were definitely not going to enjoy it.
It isn't a beginners' race, doesn't claim to be one, doesn't have big sponsors or razzmatazz, that's why there's no momento or goody bag.
As for the finish funnel, did you know that the times are recorded as you cross the line but your race number is noted at the end of the funnel ? Which is why you have to keep moving along and keep your position relative to those who finished just in front or behind you, or you'll mess-up the whole of the results. If you stopped dead in the funnel at a busy time with lots of others finishing at roughly the same time, I'm not surprised you were hustled along it by a marshal - the hassle and stress of finish-line marshalling is enough to give grey hairs to those who are, remember, unpaid volunteers.
From saying you paid £8, you clearly aren't a member of a running club or it would have been only £6. Perhaps you should consider joining a club, saving yourself £2 for every race entered and you'd soon find yourself out marshalling at your club's race or maybe involved in race organisation, putting something into the sport... In short: Another Well Done to Tattenhall Runners In full: I have run in this race on a number of occasions (6 of the last 8 years). Once again I consider myself a perfectly satisfied customer, so am quite surprised with the comments from the previous writer.
In terms of entering - it is a bit of a pain having to enter well in advance, but if you want to run in the more popular races, you have to commit yourselves earlier. This is because many races are seeing rises in entrants.
Other people turned up on the night expecting to enter, when it was made clear that the race was full several days before. Sorry guys, not the organisers' fault is it?
In terms of the people at registration... there were no entries on the night, so why should there be signs to registration. This would have tempted people to try and park at the high school where there was very little parking. There is an e-mail address on Tattenhall's website you could have written to to explain your friends situation. Sorry to hear he missed out on running! Personally, as someone involved in race organisation elsewhere, I would have let him run if I was convinced an entry had been sent.
Marshalling - ah yes, I love that job! They are there 'to direct runners and nothing else'. If they choose to shout for their clubmates, then so be it! This does not hinder anyone. At the finish I cannot understand why you would have been 'pushed', but they do have the task of preventing groups of runners 'stopping' on the line stopping other runners getting through, so I can understand when I was knackered at the end and stopped for a breather I was asked to move on into the funnel. The marshalls were at the corners and did their job because they we seen. Also, they kept the course clear near the finish allowing the slower runners to get in unhindered (people who have already finished can always get in the way when going for a warm down on the course!)
I agree that for a club runner £6 is quite a lot for a 5K with no 'momentos', but to he honest I think all races have upped their fees. When it is a popular one where people are willing to pay it, why charge less?
I am not trying to contradict anything from the previous writer, but am putting my own opinion which clearly does not match his. Thanks also to those from West Cheshire AC who helped Tattenhall out with the officiating. Date of review: May 10, 2008
