In short: Nice off road run In full: A nice scenic off road run. A couple of hills thrown in along the way. Can't fault the organisation itself but agree with previous comment by Chigal about it being a bit of a clubby feel. It was lacking in a bit of banter. I did really enjoy the race itself and the cake afterwards was great. a big thanks to the marshals as well! Date of review: December 5, 2010

In short: Challenging enough and well organised In full: First time I have entered this run, although judging by the number of club runners it is a popular event. Entry and start are in two different places, which is no bad thing as the entry is in the Cricket Club with warmth, showers and toilets whereas the start is obviously in the open.
Good course, almost completely off road through pleasant woodlands. Hardly a flat section on it (apart from the bike track), and the hills were all slippery yet all possible to run.
Encouraging and regular marshalls, good signage and co-operative dog walkers all made for a fine event. I don't imagine it's PB material but for a challenging run around a part of London I didn't know could accommodate such pleasant scenery it was well worth doing. Home made cake, tea and a medal were all bonuses, as was the finish times posted online by the afternoon in a searchable format. Date of review: November 22, 2010

In short: Pleasant trail run for a Sunday morning In full: I actually thought this was going to be more hilly than it was - not to say it was anywhere near flat but the 2 lap course wasn't filled with ups and downs. Not a PB course by any stretch. Long walk from HQ to start but once up and running a nice run, all off road, some across fields which saps the energy! Enjoyed it but not one of the classics. Will definitely do again though as the course was different to a normal road race. Date of review: November 22, 2010

In short: well organised race - except everyone with headphones!!! In full: It's always important to support local races. People rush all over the place without even looking on their own doorstep for races. Beckenham RC is only 4 miles from mine and as such, it is always good to be able to include the race in a LSR schedule on a sunday morning. Beckenham Place park is a nice bit of XC without having to dash out to the North Downs. I put this as the last 10k of my 20 mile run this morning. That said, my legs were OK and after a long run in the drizzle, still subbing 8 min miles was fruitful, although frustrating as there was not much in the tank.
The only issue I have with this race this morning is the number of people running with headphones on and oblivious to the people around them. In their own little world, not paying attention to others around them and the lack of awareness is something that needs stamping down on. XC races should be just that... appreciating the terrain rather than the next tune.

In short: A lovely course with good marshalls and great cakes In full: It's great to be able to run off-road on the border of SE London and Kent. Really great marshalls who supported everyone and a big thanks to the lovely kids handing out medals at the finish. Lovely touch for cakes and coffee afterwards and it was great to support Delemzia. Downside: no showers for the ladies! Please can they be opened for next year? One thing that made it 'clubby' at the finish was, I think, unintentional, but it still had the effect to alienate anyone not from Dulwich Runners or Beckenham clubs was the fact that most people knew one another, which is fine, but it did mean that during the presentations, it was all very "well, I wonder who's won this section" etc etc. It's great that clubs have a good turnout and support one another, but don't forget that not everyone is from YOUR club. I was wanting to ask a question at the info desk and was ignored while the two people on the desk kept talking to one another, and then when someone they knew came over, decided to serve him before me. I know you're volunteering and we're all grateful, but just understand that even though this may be unintentional, it still has an alienating effect on those not part of your club. I suggest this is one reason why 'average' runners won't join clubs because they feel they won't be included.... Date of review: November 21, 2010

In short: When I saw those mega Beckenham hills initially I thought to myself no way Jose!!! In full: Running Beckenham 10k road race is easier said than done. If you think that your running has gone downhill there is no need to fret- running Beckenham 10k will put you back on the road again.
Beckenham road race 10k is a tough and hilly course and it is not easy to tackle those hills. It was so hot, not even solar power energy could help me up those dreaded hills. The intense heat really did not help the situation. I suppose this is what you call altitude training.
This race is a two lap course of 3-4 killer hills! Some runners say the hills are steep but I would argue that they were endless. My legs nearly gave way just looking at them.
I’m very pleased I ran Beckenham road 10k race because the organisation was spot on. I managed to crawl up those dreaded hills- the good news was that the last 3k was nice and flat. The race finish was in Beckenham Park.
Beckenham Marshals are the best, it’s nice when you hear Marshals and also your friends shouting your name - it gave me that extra boost. I could not run any faster because I lost my legs somewhere on the last hill, err I meant I lost the strength in my legs somewhere on the last hill!
Great organisation and great run Beckenham Running Club you get my Runners World vote, err rating!

In short: A couple of challenging hills but I still managed a PB! In full: The Beckenham Road 10k was well organised with no need to register on the day - just turn up and run. There were a couple of challenging hills but I still managed a PB, which I really wasn't expecting, so don't let the hills put you off! Everyone received a medal and there were jelly babies too!
