In full: my 4th time running and every year brings different challenges, this year rain, wind and plenty of mud and very large puddles (some like lakes) and did i say mud, great support from the marshals and supporters the split start was a good idea to stop the usual bottle neck at the start can not wait for next year to see what crops up Date of review: October 15, 2013
In short: Fun in the mud!! In full: First time running the herts 10k, the weather was horrendous was not up for it when i was sat in the car pre race. However the atmosphere and buzz created before the race soon had me ready to go! Felt it was really well organised and that the organisers coped well despite dreadful conditions, I actually enjoyed the mud, made it more of a challenge! A great cause to run for, will definitely be there next year! !
In short: Worth the trip, despite the mud! In full: The rain and mud were horrible, but the organisation and support made up for it, as did the t-shirt and medal. Parking a km+ away, and a slow get-away because of roadworks outside the station, weren't ideal on a cold damp day, but in better weather the course and location would have been perfect. Easy to see why this race is popular (2,000+ runners, and a sell-out before the day). Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Well organised, fast(ish) and friendly In full: I first did this race back in 2009, with all the controversial bottlenecks. The new course is an improvement, but unfortunately, there had been very heavy rain before and during the race, so new bottlenecks were formed as people tried to avoid puddles. With the course being multi-terrain, trail shoes are a must if it's muddy. Mostly flat-ish, but with a long, draggy hill at mile 3 that cuts the pace a bit. Lots of good vocal support as you run through the housing estate and excellent marshals throughout.
Only flaw was the massive hold-up as we tried to leave the station car-park. Sitting in traffic in cold, wet, muddy kit for half an hour wasn't pleasant. Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Beautiful day, muddy underfoot, enjoyed it! In full: A mix of cross-country and roads, largely flat. Well organised with good atmosphere. Country bits / mud make fast time tricky Date of review: November 4, 2012
In short: Well organised, scenic and varied route In full: First time at the Herts 10k and found it very enjoyable. The route was interesting and slightly challenging given the slightly muddy bridle ways and puddles, and the hill 3km in. Good for family supporters too with bouncy castles, coffee and snack outlets while they wait for you to come back, and a good long stretch for them to watch and cheer from as you come back for the finish. A sell-out this year so great atmosphere too. Date of review: October 16, 2012
In short: got to be good 4th time running In full: My 4th running of event, well organised and for a good cause Grove house hospice, this year the course was muddy in parts and country lanes large puddles in parts which made it challenging Water points well located but could have done with small bottles with sports caps on rather the large ones my only moan, mars bar and water and nice medal at finish Date of review: October 15, 2012
In short: Well organised event on a glorious day In full: 1st time running this race. Beautiful day, alot of mud and a bit slippery so no PB's today. Well organised and good for 1st timers. No big hills and 2 thirds of it track so safe to use your headphones. Would recommemd for beginners or serious runners alike. The big boys & girls go first as there is a staggered start.
