In short: Nice country run with a steep hill that is the worst bit. Well organised.

In short: Be careful not to go off too fast as the hill up from Redbourn Golf Club is quite tough!

In short: Glad I returned
In full: My second year at the Herts 10k. Fortunately the heavy rain during the past week had cleared some days before race day, otherwise I can imagine the country paths could have been tricky under foot in places.
The hill climb leading up to the halfway point seemed less demanding than I remembered from last year, probably I've just become a more confident runner since then!
I started in the second pen (45-50 minutes) which was correct for my finishing time. As usual, many runners went past me in the first kilometer and after that I was the one doing the overtaking. I didn't find myself getting boxed in at any time, but in a field of nearly 3000 you're never likely to get a completely clear run.
I personally had no problems with traffic on the country lanes, although I did notice one point near the hill where police and marshals were holding back vehicles while runners went through. Were the roads closed?
Certainly an enjoyable event for a great cause.

In short: great morning out for a good cause
In full: This is my most local race and despite being really muddy last week when I did some of the course it was surprisingly ok underfoot.very well organised.toilet queues not too long and very quick results system.I really liked the mixture of road and off road and know the hill from training routes so didn't find it a killer. altho I do most races with an ipod I can still hear instructions and try and be courteous to other runners!

In short: Narrow paths but great atmosphere
In full: I had a good run in this event and thoroughly enjoyed the multi-terrain, but found that I was trapped behind people a lot on narrow paths and this added a couple of minutes to my time. If the paths are narrow I wonder whether people should be allowed to listen to music as that made it very difficult to pass people. However, it is a great race and the route is very pleasant!

In short: I had forgotten about the never-ending hill!
In full: Having done it last year I thought that I would attempt it again, albeit my finishing time would be slower than last year (medical thing and not age!) Marshals were again very friendly, two even greeted me as I walked up to the event. The women doing the group warm up was very enthusiastic and got many to do the full blown aerobic session, if I had taken part 100% in this I would have been dead before the start (literally!) Good to see the timing pens again, shame that some runners and walkers were optimistic in their times as some of those in front ended up walking / trottin after a few hundred metres and then was difficult to pass due to the numbers of runners and the narrow parts on the course. Good multi-terrain route with a very long hill which I had forgotten about but for me as I reached it, I was the one one attempting to run up it. Several cars were causing problems at one road which forced some of us runners to stop and wait for the drivers to decide what they were actually doing or going to do. No problems with the water stations The t-shirt, medal, banana and water were appreciated. I am glad that it was chip timed but it is a shame that some parts are very narrow as this does slow runners down and it is no fun trying to politely ask the person in front to kindly move if they have loud music blasting in their ears - I really do not want to be listening to heavy metal in the countryside thank you very much (may be I will have to push you out of the way next time!) All in all a good event for a worthwhile cause.

In short: Tremendously well organised
In full: Lots of friendly marshals all giving up their mornings. Bit tricky in parts where the paths were bumpy and you had to watch your footing but an interesting course that keeps you challenged. Beautiful surroundings. A little bunching in parts but much better than other races i have done. Would definitely recommend.

In short: Multi terrain kept things interesting
In full: Brilliant race overall but very annoying bit in the middle, where runners were forced to completely stop to allow cars to drive up & down the road.
