In short: Great atmosphere, good conditions, hilly, good day out!
In full: This was my first run in St. Albans and I look forward to entering again next year! The whole event was extremely well organised given the number of people participating over several events although the only difficulty was with the baggage store - an extremely long queue! Otherwise this was a really good day out on closed roads with an abundance of water stations and numerous cheery marshalls. A nice little medal and goodie bag (plus lolly!) rounded off a good day out. The hills were quite tiring though and the last mile or so made more difficult as you weren't aware of where the finish line was. Running through the oark was particularly crowded at the beginning including some awkward surfaces which couldn't be seen given the number of people. I was informed by a parking stewards however that the car park at the school would be locked up by 1.30pm. This meant having to rush back and leave the event early - surely parking facilities should be open all day? Overall I'd be happy to run this again.

In short: Traffic free and fairly hilly
In full: Overall the race is well organised. Enough loos at the start though the baggage queue was a bit too long. Enough hills to break a sweat and being traffic free is a bonus. The two commentators at the end were amusing and the ice lolly a nice touch.
My first St Albans half and might do it again

In short: Great organisation, family friendly, super run with testing hills
In full: Enjoyed this race. Some testing steep short hills that tire the legs. Great marshalling and support particularly under the bridges. lots of drinks, gels on offer at halfway, toilets all available. To make this race perfect leaving the car parks could have marshalling as this would help greatly....Many thanks for a challenging run

In short: Hilly course, very scenic, great atmosphere, very enjoyable.
In full: This was the first St Albans half that I have entered. The route was billed as hilly and it certainly was in places, however, that made it all the more enjoyable when I completed it. It was very professionally organised and run, with lots of marshalls and much needed frequent water stations. It had a great atmosphere with a real family friendly feel to the day. There were plenty of toilets available or alternatively plenty of bushes!! The only real negative was the massive queuing for the baggage drop at the start. I would think that if you already have a tag attached to your bag you could just hand your bag in and they could sort out the order during the race, rather than holding up the queue which meant I almost missed the start. This should be addressed for next year. I will certainly run this one again.

In full: The only negative thing is the bottle neck at start and where the play ground is.

Now the positive, great organisation the new and improved route was very welcome having done the event 4 times in the past cut out the hills down the lanes, but not all but that is the attraction, the marshals were fantastic and water stops spaced outt well, seemed to be more than other years, at the finish medal,t-shirt drink and the all important icelolly, and a pb made it a great day looking forward to next year

In short: Improved course, but watch for potholes
In full: A really enjoyable race that I've done a few times now. This year's course change was an improvement, meaning the entire course was trafic free and through lovely country lanes. Quite hilly and a few bottlenecks in places, but plenty of water stations, friendly & encouraging marshalls and the infamous end of race ice lolly. The only negative was the pothole I fell into about 10m after the start line, which nearly ended my race. I realise we can't have track conditions, but at least fill in the holes on the starting stretch - especially as you can't see where you are putting your feet with so many other runners around you
