In short: It couldn't be harder than in 2007, could it? Well yes it could and it was. The weather can make this a killer In full: There are nice patches and some truly hideous industrial wastelands to traverse, but overall this is a gem of a race that gives great variety in a very challenging format.
It might be flattish, but the weather makes it a real tough challenge. I'll be back... Date of review: January 13, 2009
In short: Excellent organisation - but hardest thing I've done In full: 50 mile trail race. Lots of mud - perhaps worse than usual given a whole day of rain. Requires good navigational skills to follow strip map - route is not marked. Great organisation, excellent website, and lots of free food and drink at checkpoints and end. Far more challenging than 50 miles on road - but great to finish. Date of review: December 23, 2008
In short: Magnificent! In full: I'm thrilled to have finished this very tough race in wet and cold conditions. It is a brilliant event, very well organised. There is a real variety in scenery: pretty villages, woods, a beautiful country park and an ugly industrial estate. The muddy fields and flooded paths were very challenging, particularly after dark, but that is the fun and the challenge. Thanks to the organisers for a remarkable race and a truly memorable experience.
In short: Worst route I've ever seen In full: The organisers can't be blamed for the weather (although this would be more fun in a warmer month) but the choice of route is appalling. A mixture of industrial estates, sewerage works (or something that smells equally as bad) and bleak fields of mud is not the most enticing route.
Only worth doing as a training run and don't expect to get any enjoyment from the race. Date of review: December 13, 2008
