In short: Really enjoyed this race. Very well organised and great course. Only my third marathon and my first ever trail race, so was delighted with a PB nearly 30mins. Thouroughly recomend this one.

In short: The third year of this marathon - the Portsmouth Coastal Marathon has got to be one of the toughest flat marathons in the country
In full: Unlike last year’s morning after the night before, this year I woke up without a hangover - hooray. For my 60th I celebrated into the small hours following the 1st marathon of my 60 and a great launch party at the Queens Hotel. Last night however, it was a small family get together for a nice meal and one (or was it two glasses of wine) a birthday cake made by my daughter Lussi and a relatively early night. Yes, this morning I had more marathon business to attend to and my chauffeur Ronald and I left for Pompy just after 7.00am, or to be more precise the Pyramid Leisure Centre, Southsea. I had run the inaugural Portsmouth Coastal Marathon in 2010 in a time of 3:47 which I was really pleased with considering it was my 9th marathon in 10 weeks. The idea then was that those 9 marathons were a trial run to see if my body could cope with running a marathon every week. That 3:47 convinced me my body could even though running 9 marathons is a lot different to running 60 - If you would like to read more then check out my full blog here at http://60in60at60.com/2012/12/23/m53-portsmouth-coastal/

In short: Mixed terrain, coastal path route
In full: Nice course - mixed terrain along the coastal path.
Like many other runners was unsure whether to wear trail shoes after the recent deluges but given that a large amount of the course is on hard surfaces, opted for road shoes.
Well organised race, lots of water stations which were well stocked with water, squash, bananas, sweets and biscuits as well as brandy and mulled wine.
Friendly atmosphere - spent most of the event beaming.
Great goodie bag and medal, and the use of the pyramids before and after the event was hugely appreciated - as was the free soup or tea and mince pies.
A wonderful last marathon for 2012... thank you!

In short: Best I have ran in ages, felt good. The goody bag was fab- lets hope that a certain marathon along the coast in April takes note, that this was not full of paper adverts, also its £20 cheaper, well done Portsmouth.

In short: Loved it - back again next year
In full: Second time running this race, and as others have said, very muddy and the wind particularly in the last couple of miles was challenging. I wore road shoes which added a bit of extra challenge, still managed a PB somehow! Back again next year - well done organisers and everyone else involved. If you want a big city tarmac marathon then this isn't for you. If you want decent scenery, a bit of mud, gravel, shingle and some tarmac, give it a go!

In short: ....better than Christmas shopping.....
In full: This was event was chosen so that I could end the year by running my 9th marathon/ultra of 2012 and my 80th marathon/ultra overall. I found it very well organised with great support from all the spectators and fellow runners that created a lovely atmosphere. The ground underfoot was testing in places and another year I would wear trail shoes rather than road which are still drying out!

My only disappointment and this seems to apply to most races now is the selfishness of a minority of runners who just discard their empty gel packets along the route rather than carry them to the next drinks station. So all those who needlessly litter the countryside should be ashamed of themselve especially as it reflects badly on the organisers.

In short: My first ever Marathon and i finished it!!
In full: This was first attempt at a marathon and it felt very special being able to run it in Portsmouth my home town. The runners I met before and during the marathon were very supportive and although the terrain consisted of mud, glorious mud and water logged paths it all added to the challenge and made this race memorable for so many reasons! I found it tough, very tough. I took a tumble during the race and survived but the personal satisfaction of finishing the race will live with me for ever! Thanks to all the marshalls and people that supported the race it was very much appreciated.

In short: Difficult with the Mud on the return route
In full: The scenery was as expected for a coastal marathon.
Not a PB course in those muddy conditions and with runners avoiding oncoming runners. Atmosphere was good, I thought the water stations could have had more people handing drinks to the runners instead, I had to stop at the benches to get water. So not getting a very good time, that and wearing road shoes didn't help. A bit heavy underfoot on the homeward trail. Definately a fun run more than a serious PB course.
