In short: Muddy, beautiful, tough but so worth it! In full: Forget the PB, or taking the bus. This is a must do race for the sheer scenery, pain and medal. The start was delayed due to the weather and getting people to the start. The rain and drizzle could not stop the feel good factor. Getting out of the parking field was difficult, but to see Steve Cram directing traffic was another highlight. Date of review: March 13, 2012

In short: a challenging,HILLY, extremely scenic trail route, not for the friends of flat fast road races In full: i did 1st one last year, second time, traffic issues which caused problems in 2010 had been addressed and the arrival ane exiting of event much better, isotonic drinks were poor and my only gripe is runners waiting behind spectators for toilets could do with looking at.catering and tent at finish a lovely addition Date of review: October 11, 2011

In short: brutal but lovely In full: Wonderful organisation and a truly special race despite the bad weather. Marshalls were cheery and enthusiastic which made a real difference. Lots of water stops and they seemed to get more frequent towards the end (not sure if I was just hallucinating by then). They had silver blankets and towels ready for us when we finished so no chance of getting cold. Would I do it again?.....if my legs ever forgive me for the hills then yes its well worth the pain Date of review: October 11, 2011

In short: There are hills on this course! In full: People seem to be critical of the hills on this course. Well, I did my homework BEFORE I entered. I loved every step of it. Clockwork organisation, lots of improvemnts on last year's excellent race. And I'm sure Steve Cram and his team are already looking at 2012. If you want a fast course this is not for you. If you want. Great day out with great scenery and a very friebdly welcome, I'll see you next year. Thank you to Steve Cram and his team, all the marshls, first aid, drinks stations, commentators, results people, massage therapists, and a whole host of volunteers. You now who you are and what you did. THANK YOU

In short: A real test of mental and physical strength In full: A race packed full of positives, with only minor grumbles. The organisation and running of the event was excellent. A special thanks has to go to all the volunteers, who were helpful, encouraging and friendly at all times. The medal and goody bag was the best I have ever received, and it was very nice to have my medal placed around my neck with a smile and a well done. All to often it is out of a box or still wrapped in the goody bag. What can be said about the course Beautiful yes, easy No. This a real tester and definitely not for the faint hearted. Now for the grumbles, a hill profile needs to be placed on the web page for future events, so people can prepare for the pain ahead. Also it would be useful for a google type map to be place on the web-page with exact distances of water stops. As I said small grumbles, above all a great race, great organisation, great marshals, great spectators, great location and great weather(NOT) Date of review: October 10, 2011

In short: Great scenery, and a real challenge. In full: If you can run a marathon, run this one ! You wont get a pb, and you will ache the next day, but if you are used to running flat races through housing estates then this will remind you why you run. Great organisation, great goody bag and great Tshirt. A couple of grumbles - the course description on the literature doesnt describe the hilliness clearly enough - whilst there are only a few large hills, there is very little actual flat terrain, and I'd have liked to prepare a little more for the constant ups-and-downs. Also it would be good to encourage more supporters - its great when you go through the viewing points / car parks where the crowd were fantastic, but its awfully lonely on the stretches between - I ran for long stretches without seeing people.
