In short: Quite a few sport billies but plodders like me welcome!
In full: I was so scared about doing this race as it was only my second, the first being last year's Great South Run where there are as many sporty types as there are serious runners. I needn't have worried - I just ran the race I wanted to run and surprised myself with a decent time (for me!) due to the fairly flat course.

In short: Great race - well organised
In full: It can get windy up there but best conditions yet this year. Can't understand anyone griping about a 300m jog to the start or a few metres of grass at the finish - come on!! Excellent race but get there early cos of parking.

In short: Good Atmosphere, PB potential and jelly babies!
In full: My first 10k for 9 years and was quite nervous for a week before the race. I thought i would stuggle to find the hanger to start with as the entry letter tells you the postcode (if using sat nav) does not lead you to the event but the instructions given were clear and found it very easily. The day was quite chilly and the start was further away from the car park as i had thought so i did my warm up on the way which was not a problem. one the race got going the marshels were very helpful and encouraging, as well as managing the traffic well. The course is marked well with KM markers and this helps especially on the second lap to plan your run in. Not to sure about the finish line being on grass though but thats the only gripe. A well organised event with plenty of water at the end along with jelly babies. Also good bacon baps and welcome cup of tea. WELL DONE GRASSROOT EVENTS.

In short: Well organised, geat atmosphere, great value for money
In full: Top race well run, carpark a bit tight but well managed. Pre-race registration was quick enough. Start line a bit of a distance from HQ and later arrivals planted themselves near the front. Not too sure about the last 30 meters on wet grass!

In short: Flat-ish course, well organised, nice atmosphere.
In full: My first Swindon 10k, run with my daughter (first 10k!). On arrival, car parking was tight, but well directed/controlled. Paid on the day so arrived early - bit of a queue at registration, but processed fairly quickly. Got changed next to car in car park. Bit of a queue at the Portaloos pre-race, but there were plenty of them and didn't have to wait long. Refreshments facilities were welcome as my wife also came as a spectator and had to keep our two young grandchildren entertained during the race. The start location was a bit further away from the race HQ than we had anticipated and had to jog (fast) to get to the start on time. Weather on arival was a bit cold and foggy, but this cleared to thin low-level cloud for most of the race and the sun popped out briefly (once). Wind was slight and probably nothing like some of the stories from previous races. Course was 2 laps, fairly flat, with a few gentle inclines. Knowledge from the first lap was of great benefit in 'planning' for the second lap. There was a bit of mud in places, but generally running surfaces were hard and firm. Roads were open to normal traffic during race, but road traffic seemed sympathetic to the running event and did not cause any problems. Liked the very prominent 'km' markers. Marshalls were very efficient, cheerful and encouraging. Liked the jelly babies at the drinks stop and race end (so did the grandchildren - sorry!). Nice medal at the end and prompt race results. Overall, very pleased we did the Swindom 10K this year - would certainly recommend it to new runners.

In short: Personal Best Potential
In full: This was my first Swindon 10k, I thought it was very well organised.
The race is 2 laps, which gives yu the chance to suss the course out on lap 1 and then on lap 2 you know where you can make some time up.
Would have been nice if this was a chipped event as my watch showed 46mins 20sec but my time recorded was about 30 seconds slower.
Will be back next year.

In short: everything you'd expect for the money
In full: Overall an enjoyable race. It did the job - I drove 45 miles for a race with PB potential and it certainly delivered. A few minor gripes, but for the money I won't complain about the lack of goody bag or comforts in the HQ. It offered runbritain ranking, great marshalls / atmosphere, a nice medal and plenty of water which is all that really counts. Having said that, chip timing would be appreciated - my gun time adds 39 secs to my watch time and there was plenty of runners behind me. One more thing that could be easily fixed is some sort of signage indicating you're allowed on the private road to access it (Hangar C2 meant nothing to me). I turned around and did a good few miles detour thinking there was another way, only to find myself on a byway. I was pleasantly impressed by the scenery though, having expected it to be industrial.
