In short: Very steep hills, mud and v tough
In full: Maybe it was the Xmas excess but I found this very hard. The defrosting two-week frost also made for interesting terrain (ie either slippery mud or rock hard). The first hill set the standard - steep with semi-frozen mud). Then it just seemed to get tougher and steeper. Gave up trying to stay upright on the decline - sledging with your feet (or @rse). All-in-all this is a very well organised and tough race. 10 miles was enough! Will be back next year for more of the same!

In short: Rough 'n' ready
In full: Second year for this tough but rewarding race. Old age doesn't come alone and I gleefully made this my first race of the new year, obviously forgetting the 'steep' learning curve of 2008. 'Rough' means basic, ie outdoor, changing facilities but with a 'ready' smile from the organisers and marshalls. Although this event is 'seriously hard', there was more than a glint of fun in the organiser's eye. Loved starting line up comment from Stephen Goulding that, although the course had mile markers, GPS owners were not encouraged to question accuracy because "I don't care!". This typified this special race for me. Yes, it is a hard race, with a top 50 reputation - drawing in some well known elite athletes and celebrities - but it is certainly not elitist. All are welcome and those that dare, win their own personal battle with the unmitigating Marlborough Downs (seemed more up than down!) terrain and elements!

In short: Great route, good mix of people, phenomenal results organisation
In full: Results were printed and laminated in RECORD time at the end of the race. Overall one of the best organised races I've been to, including a major city marathon.

In short: The motto on the medal, "Mud, Sweat and Hills", sums it all up perfectly.
In full: The Rough 'n' Tumble 10 is a tough X-Country race with some tough hills and some tough mud. One of the great things about it is the way in which the competitors cover the full range of speeds. But, speedy or not so speedy, everyone must be a bit touched in the head to want to do this. I'll certainly be doing it again!

In short: Very tough, but beautiful and this first-timer will be back
In full: Excellently run and cheerfully marshalled with glorious views from the ridges. One downhill did cause a bit of a sense of humour failure but I think that conditions made it about as tough as it is likely to be and it was well worth it.

In short: It just gets better and better, but not easier !!
In full: As always a fantastic race - it never disappoints. Brilliant organisation and wonderful patient encouraging marshalls. Unfortunately there is the small business of suicidal hills and mud to contend with but it just makes you appreciate the cakes even more!! Thank you to all involved - it was great

In short: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In full: A well organised event that made the most of the amazing scenery, although how I saw any of it with my head either in mud or staring at a crampon-requiring slope I don't know. Would do again for the personal challenge.
