In short: Horrendous Hills in the Spectacular Wyre Forest In full: Recenetly got into trail running after a few years running roads and trying to recapture my XC youth events, so thought I would give this a go. A lot of runs claim to be 'testing' 'hilly' or 'challenging' the Wyre Forest Half is not to be underestimated, its all of the above. I personally like the uphill climbs, its the downhills that my legs struggled with. With the exception of a nice flat couple of miles around mile 9 and 10, the rest was predominantly uphill or downhill on a real mix of surfaces. I personally would have enjoyed it more if the rain had been lashing down rather than the sun beating down, but thats just personal preference! Marshalls and organisation was fantastic, medal was top quality for the price and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has enough training under their belt, real star-quality race! In short: Tough but beautiful! In full: I've paid twice as much for half the distance and nowhere near as much fun in the past. The dappled sunshine was an added bonus and I would imagine that on a wet day it would become a totally different race. This race is a bit of a hidden gem! Date of review: July 12, 2011

In short: Once again, brilliant In full: A superb trail half marathon, with some testing features (the last hill - up to the finish is a real 'treat'!)but some great downhill/ flat sections which can allow for good speed. Overall, a great race - looking forward to next year already! Date of review: July 11, 2011

In short: A challenging first half In full: This was my first half marathon & probably not the best choice for my first. It was a lovely course but quite hilly/undulating. The organization was great and marshalls were wonderful, all of them encouraging and cheerful. Plenty of water stops and mile marks. I think it might be a more fun course in cooler temperatures as it was over 20 degrees this day and some of the course was in full sunshine. That said, I really enjoyed it. In short: A tough race, but well worth the effort In full: My first trail half (ran 3 road halfs previously) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was very hard work though. I regularly run the Turbo X races and this was far tougher in my opinion. The course description was hilly and hilly it most definitely was. The finishing hill was described as "cheeky"...downright "rude" would probably be more appropriate!!!
Having said all that, it was a brilliant experience - great scenery, enthusiastic marshalls and brilliant atmosphere out on the course. Nice medal and delicious flapjack at the end. Also a good place for supporters to enjoy themselves once the race was underway.
Relative novices or indeed complete newcomers should not be put off by the hills...just make sure you prepare properly and you will be fine.
Congratulations to all involved, I will definitely be back next year to hopefully improve on my time. Date of review: July 11, 2011

In short: Brilliant trail half marathon In full: Forget chasing PB's - this one is all about stamina and enjoying the journey through the Wyre forest.
The first 2 miles are downhill, then it's 11.1 miles of uphill with the occasional bit of downhill thrown in.
Surface is hard-packed trail and rough bridle-way which could be muddy in wet weather, though not this year.
Less than a tenner for a quality half - decent medal, flapjaack and water at the finish... What more do you need? Date of review: July 11, 2011

In short: A very challenging, but enjoyable race In full: I really enjoyed this one! 5 minutes off a PB, but that is running the forests for you!
The event was well organised and marshals were very friendly and encouraging. I'd recommend this to anyone with staying power as those hills are FULL ON! Date of review: July 10, 2011

In short: Fantastic race, very hard but worth it! In full: Given the heat could have done with an extra drinks station. But otherwise excellent. Great scenery mostly good going underfoot. Very hilly so a must if you want a challenge. Date of review: July 10, 2011

In short: Nice change to road races, well organised In full: There are a few mild undulations (eek!) and one of these is at the very end, so no sprint finish for me. Beautiful course, much nicer than pavements, good camaraderie among those of us nearer the back, well organised and marshaled. Don't expect a PB, but for a tenner, well worth doing.
