In short: 2011 TAMWORTH 10K
In full: Oooo! What interesting reading these race reviews make!!! I've listed the race & the year because it makes confusing reading on Runners world (I'll be onto them again about this as it needs sorting!). All events organised by KP Events seem to be lumped together under `Fradley 10k', when clearly there's a Summer race in there on P1 & P2 (Johannemica & others)...but where/what?? & then before this Fradley (held in March).
Back to Tamworth. Never been here before & fancied a race & day out just to see what was what really, so here goes....
On a PLUS...Nice grounds outside the Castle to Start/Finish. Car parks very close to start (& main shopping area of Tamworth). Excellent lavatories (No Queues! & v.clean). An excellent fast course, which took you down the canal towpath for part of the way, & which was marshalled well. A 2 lap 5k course, so 2nd time around if you were new to the area it didn't matter...seeing the high rises meant you were on your way back to the finish area. Good straight for a sprint finish, but steep camber, so keep central!
Paperweight memento, so that was nice. Also, choice of drinks at finish & help yourself to a banana...we like this!
Now for the MINUSES! Have to agree with others about Money Making coming first though by KP Events. It's good that they've resurrected the event after 3 years abscence, but let's make it fairer with regard to prizes. In a sport where 75 per cent of the field is made up of veterans (check out the results of any given race in the country), it's not really good enough just to give a prize to the 1st 3 M/F. After all, everyone pays to enter & just about every other race I've ever ran has vets category prizes. It doesn't needn't be much, but it makes for a better race.(Interesting to note that just M/F are listed on the results here, not MV/FV etc).
Course Distance. I've been running well all year this year, but could barely believe my eyes on the approach to the finish...a time I haven't seen for a few years at least! I don't run with all this 'gagdgetry' that's around these days, but I reckon comments by others were correct. A short course. Also, timings were out by a few seconds on the listed results...same happened at 'Chipped' Fradley, which just shouldn't be happening. This event wasn't chipped, but timing still not spot on.
Also, a rather subdued atmosphere in general from supporters & marshalls, which is a bit unusual really.

SUMMARY. Depends what you want from a race. For a novice this is an excellent course to set you off as it's flat & being 2 laps you know what to expect 2nd time around.
If your more experienced, or `In in to win it', there's better value to be had elsewhere.

In short: It's Tamworth!!!! Not Fradley!!!!
In full: Another well organised race from KP Events. For a small 10k I can't fault it. A nice flat route which helped me smach my PB, a nice momento at the end and a nice atmosphere to finish with local support. Not the most prestigious 10k you'll ever enter but nice morning out and 14 quid well spent. I will be back next year.

In short: Terrible weather affected the turnout but a challenging 10k
In full: This was the first Kingsbury Water Park 10k, the relevant word here being "water"! It absolutely threw it down for hours before the race, which turned most of the course into either a mudbath or a series of very large deep pools of water! It also rained most of the way round. Having said all that, it was enjoyable and the course was a good challenging 2 laps around a scenic park, not that most of us were concentrating too much on the scenery - staying upright was the major concern! Fairly well organised, although the results were late coming through possibly because the cardboard numbers lasted all of about 5 minutes in the driving rain, which caused some problems identifying runners at the finish. Marshalling was generally fine, no goody bag at the end but there was a medal.

In short: Challenging 2 lapper
In full: Sutton Coldfield 10k well a fairly well organised, low key event. Didn’t have a great time myself, as I really suffered in the heat and for the first time in my running career needed the attention of the kind first aiders after finishing. The race is run over two laps of the course used in Sutton Park for the regional & national relay championships, except run in the opposite direction. Therefore, I do wonder if the event will struggle to attract many club runners, who have the option of running this circuit several times each year already. For my money, the course is tougher run ‘backwards’ – long drag uphill between 0.5 and 3k really saps the legs – and of course you have the same to look forward to on the second lap. Not the cheapest of races either. Nice medal at the end, which combined with the traffic free environment would appeal to a lot of people. Perhaps extra water could have been put on given the heat, and I wasn’t keen on having to Velcro a timing chip around my ankle. All in all, I’d give it an ‘average’ rating…. Nothing that really shone, but nothing that greatly upset me either.

In short: On a hot sunny day where else would you rather be !!
In full: Nice quiet race, cheering the 2k runners before the start of the 10k is a nice little touch, nicely organsiaed at the start from the car park marshall's to the timing chip pick up.

Its a nice race, nothing special, but no major issues either, maybe a little more encouragement from some of the marshalls wouldnt go amiss, and the water stations really do need better organisation.

A nice finish though with lots of finishers hangin round to cheer those still running on, with good marshalling at the end.

In full: Not sure if was my lack of a finishing kick or a big gap between the 9km and finish line!
