In short: A good race which could be better. In full: A good race but why oh why not have the gate open at the exit to the road? Also, with so many marshalls , have one holding open the swinging gate halfway round. Surely the stony pigs trail down from Box Hill is more dangerous than the normal descent? Is someone noting these criticisms? I hope so as it's too good a race to mess up! Date of review: November 24, 2016
In short: A feeling of hilly happiness In full: Despite the extreme weather a great run. I must thank all of the marshal's who smiled through the rain. Alan and Nicky who overcame everything the British weather could throw at them and made us all smile at the end. One to do again. Date of review: November 24, 2014
In short: Finding a gem in miole valley In full: What a gem of a race, very clever to glue the three hills together. It was a showcase of fantastic organisation, marshal positioning and course marking. This was a race put together by runners, for runners but by people who also care about the other users of the race route. I was soaking wet and muddy but it was glorious. On the last two miles running back along the ridge and through the vineyards of Debnbies I had a huge grin on my face. My first time doing this race and I will be back as it will be a very different race in the dry. Thank you to Nicky and Alan and all at ETL. The marshalls deserve a huge thank you for coming out on such an awful day. Date of review: November 24, 2014
In short: It's a bit wet in places In full: I've done a fair bit of running around the Mole Hills so I thought I'd stretch myself beyond the half marathon distance. Seemed a good idea, but following a wet week and torrential rain over night that idea didn't look quite so wise. I was amazed that so many teams and individuals turned out. 1 mile in you hit the steps up Box Hill (missing the stepping stones which were under water). After that the rest of the course was a breeze. Loads of great marshalls even in that weather, organisation was great. Didn't get any views though, so back next year to see them! Thanks ETL. In short: Great fun! In full: Great marshalling (despite the heavy rain), excellent organisation and mud(!) made this a very enjoyable race. With a medal and a bottle of beer at the end, waht more could you want? :o) Date of review: November 23, 2014
In short: Events to Live (and thanks Denbies!) have built a true classic hilly Relay (or 15-miler if you are up for it!!) In full: I've had a great first experience with Events to Live - initially with my 5 yr old on a fun run while my brother chased down 5th position in the Denbies 10m .... He told me about the 3 Molehills which was next on the calendar. It sounded loads tougher than anything I'd done running-wise before, so I started training a bit harder... but by the day of the race I think my feet (and various advice including from Alan of ETL, and my brother) were telling me that it's not worth getting injured over a run if you can tell there might be trouble...so I stepped down a gear but still managed to feel I made the effort by completing the "Ranmore Hill" leg and really enjoyed the experience (honestly!) I was working my way up beside the high vineyard when I spotted my brother as he bombed past in the other direction on his way to another 5th place overall! Great effort!
Basically, this is a true classic hilly Relay or 15-miler if you are up for it - beautifully scenic and well structured route-wise. I would like to be back next year to complete the full circuit. [Probably only 1 thing to change - maybe marshall the footbridge as well as the stepping stones, to give people both options, if they don't want to wait at the stones?].
Marshalls deserve praise - helpful and stoic in the fairly wintery conditions. Nicky and Alan (ETL) both extremely helpful too, and great organising. The guys from Fine Fettle also deserve a good mention - I got some helpful advice from Jonno and Rachel, and will likely be visiting them in Bookham shortly.
In short: Great atmosphere & lots of fun (for most!) In full: Really enjoyed my first Molehills and will def do it again. Very friendly and well organised. Water stations were excellent. Only 2 changes to consider: bridge rather than steps and something useful or tasty rather than a medal - but that's just personal preference. Date of review: November 25, 2013
In short: LOVED IT In full: Yes it was tough even more so by doing all 3 legs but i loved it ! lovely atmosphere, fantastic courses and amazing organisation. Will be back again next year for sure, well done to all those involved in making this race happen. Date of review: November 25, 2013
