In short: Excellent course, good water/energy stations. I liked the format In full: The course was great, loved it but if a bit more of the 2nd loop could be made off road that would be even better but maybe the tracks don't allow for this. Good format in that you can enter as a team of 2 or 3 or do it individually. Wish I'd realised my drinks tube had frozen solid before i'd passed the water station and not just after... Hills were a killer but not unexpected. There was a little confusion here and there but not helped by signs being removed so all is forgiven on that front. Thanks to marshals. Looking forward to next year's event please! Date of review: December 1, 2010

In short: Beautiful and challenging In full: Despite the sub zero temperatures and a delayed train meaning I missed the start, I still thoroughly enjoyed this event. 1st leg was unbelievably tough, and my hamstrings felt ready to pop on the stony descent of the final leg! Friendly enthusiastic marshalling who looked freezing, but still kept smiling was inspirational. It was unfortunate that some people were sent off course, and I agree with the point that unless it's happened to you, then it's difficult to empathise, especially if you've trained for weeks/months. However I cannot praise this event highly enough. I shall spread the word and be back next year. Date of review: December 1, 2010

In short: Poor signage and marshalling tainted what could have been a good event In full: Having partaken in the Denbies 10 event earlier in the year i had high expectations for the 3 molehills race. We had 2 teams entered for the relay. Sadly, upon arrival we had a feeling that proceedings were not going to go well having encountered numerous issues during the morning.
Comments have been expressed regarding the Marshall misdirecting people. That was ONLY ONE of the many faults that i personally encountered. Amongst the others; very poor route signage and many of the helpers and Marshalls not knowing the route of the course or being able to direct me to the Vineyard after the extra mileage when i asked them!!
I was one of those front runnres who did double the distance for leg 1 and was deeply affected by events on the day. I came away disillusioned and demoralised by what happened. Whilst i appreciate the tremendous efforts of the organsiers, marshalls and helpers in staging the event, i cannot simply ignore what happened. Until it happens to others who have commented about 'just a few front runners being affected', then they will never experience how profoundly it can affect people. Particularly given that our overall estimated time would probably have given us first male team place overall and that we all gave maximum effort in trying to achieve that. Clearly, the results will never be accurate and therefore the anticipated euphoria and positive impact just does not exist.
Personally, i've had many years of experience in racing and being involved in organising events to know what affect these issues can have on both the participants and the organisers. It works both ways. Perhaps the post-race evaluation will help to resolve issues so that they will not occur in the future, as this could be a good event and gow in popularity.
Having said all this, i do thank the many organisers, helpers and Marshalls involved in staging the even and attending in such cold weather. I know what it is like having been a Marshall, helper, etc. However, they must accept responsibility for the many faults and realise the impact it has had on those affected by the faults.
No doubt these commments will generate repsonse from others. But, as i mentioned, until it happens to them and they experience the affect it can have, then they will not know and therefore cannot provide a balanced and fair view. Date of review: November 30, 2010

In short: Excellent event In full: Excellent idea for an event - something for most. Great organisation. Good venue. Millions of marshalls / volunteers and they were brilliant. The hills were worth going up for the views & the coming down was easy. The sun came out too. What more could we want...ooohh yes to moan about something...... To the couple of angry wangrys - so someone made a mistake - never made one? No-one died (or maybe they did going up them hills:-). Think we need to remember that without all the helpers who give up their own time we wouldn't get to do our events. It's meant to be a bit of fun...lighten up Date of review: November 29, 2010

In short: Has the potential to be a great race. In full: Thank you ETL team for organising a terrific event.
There were some issues already mentioned. Having done all three legs, i went the wrong way twice. It almost happened a third time but a marshall sent me the right way. For me this was a training run so i was actually pleased about the additional distance.
I'm sure these are just teething problems and could easily be rectified by having larger signs which display the appropriate leg number on turnings.
If you’re thinking about doing this race next year please don’t hesitate. The scenery is stunning, Denbies makes an excellent HQ, and the hills make you feel you’ve really achieved something.
I wish everyone who helped out on the day a big thank you for giving up your free time.

In short: Set to become a 'clasic' In full: A real challenging race in a perfect situation. Minor niggles aside, this has the makings of a classic race. Really friendly organisational team, great facilities, supportive marshals, goodies at the end and at the feed stations. It was thoughtful to provide 'iced water' just in case it was hot! ;-)
I'd thoroughly recommend it for next year when, I'm sure this year's teething troubles will be sorted. Date of review: November 29, 2010

In short: Stunning yet challenging In full: I intended this as a training run and it acted as very good training. For me it was nice not to have to race but to stop when I felt like it, look at the views and enjoy it. Yes the hills were challenging but they were also amazing once you reached the top. I have read other reviews re the Marshalls and can understand why runners at the front would be annoyed but then accidents do happen and this was the first time the race was run. The organisers of this race successfully organise many other fantastic events and I am sure this will be remedied. I cannot imagine them not apologising, they are just not like that. Whilst that may not be of any help to those affected it is a risk one takes in entering a new event. Also remember that the organisers and the marshalls give up their time to stage these events. I felt very angry on their behalf calling the marhsalls morons as I know many of the marshalls myself and they were kids, local runners and friends of the organisers. I am sure the organisers did everything possible to prevent this but it was one of those things.
I am sure this race will become a big annual local event with a good following. I did the 15 mile run myself but can also see the appeal of the relay!
Thanks to everyone!!! Date of review: November 29, 2010

In short: lovely hills In full: fairly long ascents - the first hill is the shortest but also the steepest.
This race combines sections of three other local races - the Knacker Cracker, Fetcham Fire station 10k and the Bookham 10k.
I really enjoyed it, and a lovely lady told me that i was third in the 15 mile race which spurred me on up the final hill.
remember - you might be a bit slower going up the hill, but you can be faster coming down. it's like a little free speed boost.
highly recommended, even though it was FREEZING Date of review: November 29, 2010
