In short: Force majeure
In full: Force majeure = storm, tempest, flood, volcanic eruption, hurricane etc...in legal terms it oftern excuses a party from performaing its contractual obligations. For MVP2013 we had most of those (I didn't spot an erupting volcano, but not sure it would have made it any tougher) and so the 100+ who didn't turn up or retired are the sane ones. A great event as ever and if RW had an award for the best marshalls the Protmouth Joggers crew would win it every year - huge thanks to you all.

In short: Not for the faint-hearted!
In full: To echo previous comments - the most difficult race I have ever taken part in!

Running down waterfalls, up slippery hillsides and being charged by a flock of sheep (seriously!)

I went over three times in the space of five minutes after playing Russian roulette with some muddy puddles where the water came up to your knee!

But I finished it - the only disappointing thing was I couldn't see any medals anywhere so missed out on something to remind me of the "pleasure" - not that I'm likely to forget!

The marshals were amazing, the cakes, mars bars and hot drinks were too. I'm sure the views would be spectacular on a better day. Well done on putting on a great race!

In short: Sunday taught me that cake makes everything better!
In full: What can I say. This was an excellent race that I have sworn never to do again (at least until next year). It was superbly organised, the course was laid out well, there was an abundance of fantastic marshals who braved the elements to see us right, the aid stations were simply perfect, the cake was awesome, it made everything better.

I’ll just forget about the course, twisting my ankle, losing a shoe for a bit in a clay mud bog, falling over 4 times and the hills, the weather, the mud, the icy cold water and the 4.5 hours of misery so that I can talk myself into doing it again next year, just think about the cake :-)

Completing this gave me a true sense of achievement, I'm still buzzing about it! Forget all those trendy obstacle races. If you want a real challenge this is it.

In short: Without question the hardest thing I've ever done
In full: Words cannot describe my sense of achievement just for finishing this race. The weather was appalling, terrain near impossible in places and the wind was strength sapping. The mix of being wet through (5 layers!) and the wind drying my clothing acting like a wick sapping the heat from my body. Twice I nearly quit due to the cold. The amrshalls were fantastic and must have been freezing themselves. Also, soaking, swollen jelly babies have never tasted so good!!

Right, I'm off to buy some Seal Skinz gloves and hat for next year!

In short: The hardest race i've ever done.....
In full: never have i seen a race start with so many runners wearing jackets and weren't they the wise ones! Conditions made this years plod the hardest race i have ever done and forget spending hundreds of pounds on waterproof jackets - they just don't work when its as bad as it was on sunday.
At least for us runners though we could keep moving and head towards the finish but for the marshals, who were absolutly brilliant, a huge thank you and cannot believe how cheerful and encouraging you were, especially when you consider how long they were out there for.
thank you Pompey joggers for another great event

In short: Mettle toward the medal.
In full: So many things combined to make this a very individual race. I knew it was going to be relatively hard but I had no idea it was going to be this hard.

Never ending hills, gale force winds, pissing rain, knee high mud and waist high puddles if you were unlucky to fall the wrong way combined together to numb your face, legs and all in between.

Varying terrain took your mind off the pain and I must say i felt exultant just to finish this bugger.

Marshals were brilliant. I've never tried a mars bar from a brown puddle until yesterday but by god did it taste good a few miles from the end.

I really enjoyed this race far more than I had expected. A must do for anyone who wants to consider themselves a real runner!

In short: A Tough gruelling day!
In full: Wow....what a race in such apalling weather conditions The organisation of the day was brilliant. All the Marshals were truly amazing and in great spirits despite the horrendous weather. They made sure that everyone was ok and the waterstation at 18 miles with hot drinks was so welcome. We were at the back of the field so kept the marshals out for many hours. Many many thanks to them all for standing out there for us for all those hours. Fantastic day thankyou Pompey Joggers

In short: Organisation fantastic, weather terrible!
In full: This was the fifth or sixth time I've taken part in this race, but the first time I've had to be rescued due to the onset of hypothermia! The incessant downpour and howling gale on the hills (plus I need to eat more pies...) finally overcame my multiple layers and "waterproof". The marshals were brilliant at coordinating rescues as people started dropping out from about 10 miles in, and provided copious amounts of soup, tea and space blankets once we'd been delivered back to the scout hut. A big thank you to the organisers and marshals!
The race itself was as good as ever, well organised, and very well-stocked water stations - The cake went down well. The mud was fantastic, I'm so disappointed I didn't finish it this year. I will be back next year to take on Butser again (and hoping for drier weather)!
