In short: A fantastic value event held in scenic surroundings and very well organised In full: Just entered for 2013 and this prompted me to reflect on 2012 event. I really enjoyed this event, too many good things to say about it, so I wont eulogise, all I would say is give it a try and experience it for yourself. Date of review: May 12, 2013

In short: no medals and wrong time recorded In full: Marshalling was good and friendly, although a little sparse in places. At the end of my race I was told there were no medals left and they werent sure if one would be sent on to me - that was up to the committee. Then to cap it all they messed up the timing and added 10 minutes onto my final time! Date of review: September 12, 2012

In short: Nice scenery, great organisation shame they'd run out of goodies! In full: I should start by saying I am very much a novice runner who is in training for the Royal Parks half followed by the London Marathon (I deferred my ballot place from last year). The longest run I'd done to date was a totally flat 10.62miles which was a huge struggle so it was touch and go whether I'd be able to complete this race but I thought the hills would be a good challenge and the distance fitted in well with my training plan. The field of runners seemed quite clubby and were few in number (only 123 finished) which was a shame as the route was pretty and the marshalls were excellent and in abundance. The route was fairly undulating but not as bad as expected (I found the Brighton Trailblazer 10k a lot worse but perhaps it was just earlier in my training and I wasn't as fit). There were some short steep sections and long gradual inclines but nothing too killer and the downhill sections through the woods were great fun dodging the mud! The marshalls and supporters on route were amazing, clapping and encouraging every runner who went past. A special thank you to the lady who handed me some much appreciated gummy bears as I was starting to flag at around 7.5 miles! I was really pleased to finish the race in 1hr41 although my new garmin showed it was slightly less than 10 miles. I was slightly disappointed that they appeared to have run out of finishing goodies (especially after reading the reviews from previous entrants saying how good they were!) so on finishing I just received an empty gym bag (although it did have a smart Lingfield DH10 logo on!). Not to worry, I'll have to run quicker next time so I don't miss out! For a £10 race I felt slightly put out at having to pay for the cakes but they were totally delicious and well worth the 50p charge! Date of review: September 6, 2012

In short: I think this is one of the all time greats! In full: This is a brilliant race, lovely scenery, plenty of encouraging marshalls and great organisation. I don't know why it doesn't attract more runners but I hope the organisers keep putting it on. Date of review: September 16, 2011

In short: Superb organisation, excellent marshalling, scenic run, lovely cakes In full: First time at this race and i will recommend it. Very low key with only 48 finishers, which i understand could be related to change of course location from the Horse-racing venue. This is a real shame, as some of the entry money goes towards charity.
I've been racing for years in small and huge events and the Dry Hill 10 was by far one of the best organised and marshalled events that i've done. There was no hesitation in checking route directions or any confusion. Lots of friendly Marshalls made sure of that. A nice gift and prizes at the end together with a superb selection of home made cakes made the journey worth while. A role model for other event organisers to follow.
The course itself is 2 thirds on quiet country roads and the rest off-road on dry tracks through woods with a few ups and downs, but nothing too tough. It would be great for this event to continue and hopefully grow as it's a good event all round and would appeal to all abilities.
Many thanks to all the organisers, helpers and Marshalls. Much appreciated, as were the lovely cakes afterwards! Date of review: September 8, 2011
