In short: Fast flat course with just a few boring bits from time to time
In full: This was my first half marathon. They changed the normal race course this year to one that was in the whole flat and as such very suitable for people new to half marathons as well as those experineced runners wanting to achieve a new personal best. The down side to this is that the route misses out a lot of the iconic Nottingham landmarks and to avoid the hills the course takes you through some pretty boring places. Most notable, the course went through the boots factory which is both closed to the public (and so lacks in any atmosphere) and is full of dull warehouses. The last two miles of the course is also run along Victoria Embankment which is where you can see almost the entire remainder of the course as runners had to double back which made for a gruling finale to the race as you run from the mile 11 - 12 markers the whole time being able to see how far your going to have to run back again.

In short: i'd do again but a bit of a mess towards the end
In full: really enjoyed the atmosphere building up to the race in the village - thought there was quite a bit of bunching in the beginning and running through boots site was a bit depressing...the university was beautiful but thought the final mile was tough running back on yourself looking for the turning point in the distance.

excellent medal quality and random well stocked goody bag although missed the silver foil wrapping somehow and had to walk back to park and ride area b in the cold....

a good mornings entertainment

In short: WORTH IT
In full: The route was fine, plus well organised.Didnt like the plastic bags of water? and the pacers.. far to fast (certainly the 2-30min lady)I finished at 2h 29m and she was out of site - I felt for the first timers spoke to some who had burned out plus the final stretch along the embankment was quite narrow with lots of people stopping to walk so you had to run over rough grass to get past.
The finish was great and overall if you want a p.b.this is the one to train for...thumbs up well worth the fee

In short: New Super Quick Course
In full: New Super Quick Course in my home city. Alas Woolaton Park has been exchanged for Trading estates South of the City. However this is a very fast course and excellent PB potential. I ran 3 minutes faster than previous best but finished 300 places lower than 2 years ago.

In short: some dull stretches and patchy support
In full: The route was quite dull for lengthy stretches, only the university and embankment was truly scenic. The pacers seemed to be pretty fast - I finished in 2:15 but the 2:15 pacer chap finished about 5 mins ahead of me I think! The final stretch along the embankment was annoying - quite narrow but busy and lots of people stopping to walk meaning you had to run over rough grass to get past. A random selection of stuff in the goody bag, but I was happy with it!

In short: Bring back the old route!
In full: I have done this race a few times and was disappointed with the route change. Running through the Boots site was quite desolate. Early on there seemed to be quite a bit of bunching but there was a great atmosphere. I also thought the loop back on yourself at the end was tough mentally as you could see runners heading for the finish line as you headed out on the loop! All that said I achieved a PB knocking 13 mins off so I am happy. Medals were good quality and I will be back as Nottingham is my home town and love going back there to run.

In short: Bring back Wollaton Park!
In full: I'll be back because it's my nearest race, but I didn't like the new course. No so much worried about the scenery, but lack of spectators. It was like running thro' a ghost town in places. Get it sorted, organisers!
