In short: Awesome!
In full: This is a stunning run. Great countryside, and solid, warming, reassuring organisation. It is, however, a challenge, and I made mistakes. I ran too fast at the start in a vain attempt to keep up with the others so I wouldn't get lost too soon. That left me very tired for the finish, and I came in nearly an hour slower than I could have done if I'd paced myself. The course is very challenging in places - not just the hills, but the rough ground underfoot: freshly (and deeply) ploughed fields, uneven and loose surfaces, tree roots, flints, assorted muddy patches. Add all that to a bit of map reading, the inevitable getting lost here and there, and a fairly fast field so that I was all alone for the last half, made me, um, "uncomfortable" by the finish so I did swear a bit and mutter "never again" as I fell over the finish line. However, by the time I write this, just over a week later, my legs have stopped aching, and I managed a half marathon on Sunday in world record time (well, my personal world record), so I am warming to the event and thinking back fondly to it. I have a running partner who seems keen on doing this, so if he does enter I will be assured of company, and will be able to better pace myself. So - I am seriously considering doing this again. Maybe....

In short: A great but testing introduction to trail running
In full: The challenge is a real local race with volunteers, home-made rolls and cheery water stations. The route is picturesque and turned out to be fairly easy to follow once used to looking for little arrows and bits of green ribbon! A real fun morning out.

In short: I love this run; great scenery, good atmosphere, really nice club
In full: I did the 10 Mile Challenge. It was my 2nd time and despite not getting lost like before - I still ended up doing 12 miles! The somewhat wayward distance measurement did not dampen my enthusiasm for the race though. It has amazing scenery and is a real challenge / difference from the usual road races I go in for. The small-feel atmosphere / organisation just adds to the feel of the event - I don't envy whoever had to make all those sandwiches for the runners! My only real criticism is that after the great directions (another unusual element to the event) and the adequate markings on the way round, the last mile or so was light on signs for runners that were tired and a little brain weary by this point. Add a few more markers to get us to the finish OK and this would have been perfect. Having to carry / follow the detailed directions was actually great fun, it really kept the interest and was an extra element to the challenge - no-one wants to get lost for hours!

Maybe next year though we can just run 10 miles eh? Hehe...

Great event, will definately do it again - maybe one day the 20-miler!

In short: Great Marathon Preparation
In full: Discovered that I was one of a number of people signed up for the Beachy Head marathon next month, so was reassuring that I had picked a good preparation race. Compared to Beachy Head, the terrain was quite mild in some places, but certainly found the ploughed fields to be a different kind of challenge! The organisation was good and the checkpoints were well stocked and a welcoming site at 5 mile intervals. Having fresh homemade food at the end at a personalised certificate was a really nice touch, compared to a generic medal/T-shirt and a bland ceareal bar!
