In short: Excellent course, well organised, perfect weather and pb to boot!!! In full: I was fairly confident of a pb on this course as I knew the first 2 miles, and the hill in it, quite well, the next 7 miles had an overall decline of about 2oo feet, apart from some undulations, thanks to Congleton Harriers website for the info. Well blow me, when I was looking at my watch I was calculating a massive pb, this carried on all the way to the finish with a pb by 14 minutes, you could also put it down to my quality training plan? The sting in the tale isn't too bad short and sharp is probably the best way of putting it but after that again its fairly all down hill to the finish, nice touch with the last 400m having interval markers.
The race was well supported at the start and the finish, and at the black swan pub about half way round, all the marshalls looked like they would have rather been doing something else on a sunday morning, but I think they were all from the local rotary club!!
Anyway this is a great run, definite pb potential, can't see how people think it isn't, great scenery and good organisation. If you've not done it before it's well worth a visit. See you next year!!! Date of review: October 9, 2006
In short: Got a pb of 1.29. Very pleased In full: Found this race easier than I thought and the 'sting' wasn't as hard as I expected. Nowhere near as tough as Macclesfield last week.
I was quite surprised to get a pb and just about managed to keep the pace up until the end.
Quite crowded particularly at the start before we left town, narrowly missed a collision. I thought there was a limit of 300 on this race but it was way over that.
A few niggles on the organisation front - no point in pre entering the race as the queue for numbers was very slow and it would have been loads quicker to enter on the day. Also we were told there were no showers - and there were!
But overall the race itself, temperature and atmosphere were excellent and my pb made the day. Date of review: October 9, 2006
In short: Well organised friendly race, the sting in the tail is not that bad although some earlier hills are tough In full: Great conditions, the hill just before 2 miles is more of a shock than the sting at 12 miles, maybe because I was waiting for the sting and it was short in duration.Probably not the best race to get a PB in as it is quite undulating. With the 1/4 marathon starting at the same time the pace can seem more daunting than it actually is. It was my first time and I really enjoyed it despite not being on form, will be abck next year Date of review: October 9, 2006
