In short: another rating for 2008
In full: right i have had time to think. a few things, why not move the expo to a more suitable venue i.e. meadowbank or the commonwealth pool and the route is that the only one available, like instead when you get past musselburgh race course could you not do a loop not an out and back. cant comment on the expo my picked my number up but judging by some of the reports it wasnt that good but to end on a positive note great medal

In short: Enjoyed the race, thought it was well organised, no problems (apart from the heat - which is no ones fault)
In full: Would run again as the support from the crowds really make this race worthwhile. Good start on Princess Street, scenery good in places, nice city to spend the weekend.

In short: Too hot and poorly organised
In full: I really enjoyed my first trip to Edinburgh but wouldn't go back for the marathon. There was no lucozade until mile 10 and even then none left when I reached it (I was near the back) Water was luke warm and quite infrequent for the conditions. At one point wasn't sure I was going the right way (along the prom) as it was full of people, pushchairs and bikes and no signage. Also nearly got run over several times by relay runners but the marshalls were very supportive.

In short: Great venue but the heat made it harder work
In full: Wow, it was hot. Did not expect this temperature in Scotland of all places, so a winter training programme didn't seem like much help.
A great city to run around with a course that tried to do the city justice while keeping it to only 1 lap. Great start on Princes Street and finish in the park. The run between 18-23 miles were not so grand (sewage works, traffic jams). The supporters were excellent with the locals spraying the runners with water over the last few miles. Enough runners to feel that you had been part of a big event.

Some gripes. Can't understand how mile markers can't be accurate. School boy errors. Too many cobbled streets for my liking. Spacing of water and energy drink stations seemed odd. The two could be very close together then nothing for what seemed a long way. Why can't decent maps be produced for these races rather than very generalised pictures pretending to be maps. I quite like knowing the route before I run it.

This was my first marathon so I have little to compare it with. It is a great city to run around and well supported. I would consider doing it again but not in a month when temperatures could be this high. I am pleased that the organisers are thinking of changing the month of the race.

In short: Great race with excellent start and finish, some things were a little disappointing
In full: This was my first marathon and broke the time I had hoped for when serious training started. Loved every minute of it, the crowds were great and such a great feeling when you cross that finish line. The Expo was good even signed up for another race while I registred for this one. Good bag was a average but nothing to rave about. Raised over £1000 for charity. The weather had a huge impact but the pain suffered was only temporary while the menories and medal will last forever.

In short: Much improved after 4 years but organisers are not past the learning stage yet
In full: I enjoyed this race despite the poor toilet provision, cobbles, relay runners, poor reception at the finish and the poor goody bag. All that is now standard for this race.
Water and energy drink was greatly improved and the route was easier to attract elite.
Edinburgh CC are right to pull out and challenge the organisers to find a BIG sponsor. Possibly the organisers are afraid of losing control over their race but after 4 years they have done their bit. Thanks. Time to move on and allow a big sponsor to test if Edinburgh can support a big Marathon field without swelling the publicity with a Relay field. I don't think the Marathon can survive on its own but the Relay possibly could under current management.
NB. Elite wont turn up unless the route teases them with a PB. Edinburgh is a long way from offering big money without that BIG sponsor
